Well, I happen to have an ASUS VG278HE myself, and while that is only 1080p, I'm hoping that the GTX 970 FTW+ will handle well with the stereoscopic features of it without that 3.5GB+500MB fiasco getting in its way.
Although for the GTX 680, since I have the base clocked version of that card from EVGA in the rig I have now, it seems to handle quite nicely on a 1920x1200 monitor (24" Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP) with little to no issue. 1440p, while that is a 16:9 ratio instead of the 16:10 ratio, I can gather that resolution isn't too much more than the old standards. If you settle the details to around medium-high or so, it should last a bit.
