With Jason Statham, and Jessica Alba. I will be seeing this movie. Looks like a lot of good action. Comes out 8/26/16.

Is this based on the old, old film with Charles Bronson and Jan Michael Vincent? Not many old enough to remember that one.

    Yep!
The Mechanic is a 2011 American action thriller film starring Jason Statham and Ben Foster. Directed by Simon West, it is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name, directed by Michael Winner, starring Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent.
And now one in 2016. I have the 2011 on Blu-ray and the 1972 on DVD.

Wow! I guess I'm not the only Geezer on these forums after all. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over again knowing I'm not the 'Old Kid' on the block. LOL

Well, the 2011 release is on TV tonight and I will watch it since nothing else worth watching is going to be on. Having seen the original might influence my opinion though. It has been listed before but I never bothered watching it. It's the enthusiasm from you guys that is motivating me to see it this time around.

So I am told. I plan on watching the 2011 version tonight and see for myself. I really enjoyed the original. Back in the day good old Charles Bronson was someone to be reckoned with. He always got justice for the underdog and he never lost a battle as far as I remember. I am curious if it is the same story line with new actors or something new with a different twist at the end. Keeping fingers crossed I don't forget about it since it starts at 7:00 pm EDT.

It was OK with the typical true to the original surprise ending. IDK how much Syfy cut out of it to make it fit into the allotted time slot but it I could follow the story line without any problems.

I think you would at least need to technically be a Senior Citizen which starts at age 55. I could be wrong. BTW, I have never received my 10% Senior discount yet.

I always joked about living to be 100 and when I hit 50 I bragged about being halway there. When I reached 60 I was stymied and speechless. It kind of let the wind out of my sails if you know what I mean.

Is this based on the old, old film with Charles Bronson and Jan Michael Vincent? Not many old enough to remember that one.

Darn it Zuhl, I am not normally in this section much, I saw this thread  and first thought in my mind was Bronson, then I see you guys beat me to it.  Guess that means other guys here have good taste in vintage movies too!
I am not your age, but my gf says im old often....maybe I got a little too much "Get off my lawn" in my personality for someone my age.... but the Bronson movie was a classic.
Grew up on Bronson movies, he will always be an old favorite of mine.

Did not see the Statham remake, nothing against it, just never got around to it.

It wasn't an entire remake in the sense that it was the same story with different actors but it was an inside look at the world of profession assassination and the 'Mechanics' who perform these services. I remember Charles Bronson the best when he played 'Mr Majestyk' and 'Death Wish'.

LOL

Add me to that list. I remember it too.      :P

    I also remember it.

It wasn't an entire remake in the sense that it was the same story with different actors but it was an inside look at the world of profession assassination and the 'Mechanics' who perform these services. I remember Charles Bronson the best when he played 'Mr Majestyk' and 'Death Wish'.

Bronson made some good movies.  Of course my 2 favorites were/are Clint Eastwood and John Wayne.  Especially in there westerns...
