Hey all been awhile...
Anyway I was wondering if anyone could let me know if my current pc can take a upgrade or do i need to start from scratch?
It still runs strong. I just haven't been interested in putting big money towards a PC when I haven't seen the benefits of its worth. especially since I mostly just surf the net. I used to be a big gamer but games haven't really went far in graphics or excitement for me for a few years now.

Just thinking I would like to add a couple things to make the pc alittle nicer. I want to add a SSD Drive which I'm sure my pc can handle. I want to put in a 500gb SSD that should be enough. but my concern is if my PC can handle a 900 series GPU? my specs are in my sig and if you could just let me know that would be most kind :)

An SSD in an older PC is a good and quick boost for performance. You should be able to use a 900 series card, but update your BIOS to the most recent version first. If you want to stay on a budget, and have decent FPS in most games, a 960 would be fine, but you may be able to get some good deals on 970s and 980s soon.

Adding an SSD when you've only ever used a spinner is like night and day. It's just awesome, and you'll never go back. And definately keep an eye out on the for sale forums here and on HardOCP. With the 1080/1070 release, people are dumping their 980 Ti's, 980's, and 970' s for very good prices. Some are getting rid of their 700 series cards, and they can be had for even better prices!

+2. That 2600k is still a beast, even without OC.

Thank you for your help and support. If you have more time could any of you answer a few more questions.
1: when upgrading to a new SDD drive is there any files i need to download from the "files/bios" section" that will need to go on the drive to make sure my P67 is running correctly. for example like the  chip set drivers... do i need them? I think i need the 3.0 USB drivers if i am correct?
2: just any last reminders that i should be aware of that i may have forgotten over the last 3-4 years of not playing with PC's?

Thanks GUys!!

I am not sure I understand - you are using the SSD to a USB3? Doing data migration? If you are getting a new SSD, and want to do data migration, I recommend Samsung EVO 850 drives. They come with data migration software. If you are doing a fresh install of Windows 7 or 10, no drivers is needed. Windows 7 is smart to know it is an SSD

If you upgrade to Windows 10, make sure to check your board mfr site to see if you need to download any drivers. Chances are you don't. But good to download everything first, such as video drivers, etc. You should have an easy upgrade to Windows 10 as you can keep your existing drives, install new SSD and install Windows 10 with your Windows 7 key. Anything goes wrong then you can go back to your old drives. Have fun!

Thanks GUys!!

I was trying to ask when i upgrade my pc with a new SDD drive do i need to install the chipset drivers from the downloads page here at EVGA for my P67 motherboard? If i remember correctly those chipset drivers are stored on the SDD not on the motherboard itself?

and the other questions was there are 3.0 USB drivers on the download page as well. do i need those in order for my USB ports on ym motherboard to run full use of 3.0 USB?

Thanks!

Got it. Yes, if you are installing Windows 7 from scratch, you will need to download the drivers for the chipset and USB3 and put them on a USB memory stick and install them. However, if you are installing Windows 10, you don't need to as Windows 10 will take care of that, either through built in or download. If you have a Windows 7 or Windows 8 key, and plan to upgrade to Windows 10 anyway, you can download the Windows 10 ISO or make a bootable USB stick, and use your Windows 7/8 key to activate and breeze through the install.

Im staying with windows 7 10 is trash to me. I been holding off doing the SDD upgrade but Microsoft decided to install 10 on my pc without my consent. so i figure if i'm gonna wipe this thing clean i might as well get the drive now.
