Source: MSI Malaysia Fanclub on FacebookMeet our brand new #MSI X99S SLI PLUS which comes in all black. We can tell you a million stories but we want to keep everybody guessing until the launch. That looks nice, but the naming scheme is new for MSI. I am going to guess this is separate from their gaming and overclocking line. Really needs an I/O shield as well. This also brings another point to mind. Notice how the first PCI-E slot is lower on the board compared to the EVGA x99 (FTW?) board shown at Computex: Also shown on the podcast: http://www.twitch.tv/teamevga/c/4644785 I am wondering if that first PCI-E slot here along with the longer DIMM slots would result in incompatibility with GPU backplates.

Nah, backplates are gonna be just fine (except for stuff like Arctic Cooler Hybrid II). Look at ITX boards, for example... MSI placed their DIMM slots lower so they had to get rid of the first PCI-E slot.

I hope that is the case, but I find that hard to believe based on the picture here. The KPE backplate I have + the thermal pads on the back of the GPU are about 3mm thick total and things like the Aquacomputer active backplate are much thicker than that.

I'm pretty sure the lower ends of the DIMM slots are solid (without a moving clip).

I bought my first and last MSI motherboard a few months back, never been happy with it, RMA'd once, not doing another RMA, and won't buy another MSI motherboard.

Needs one or two more PCIe Slots for better 4-Way SLI support. That last PCIe slot covers all the lower connectors. Overkill with 8 Memory Slots, only 4 are need for 32GB or 64GB with 8GB DDR4 or 16GB DDR4 Chips. There are even 32GB Chips from Samsung on the way. Nice Black but needs a little Red too.

Every single x99 board seen so far has 8 memory slots- as with most x79 boards as well. This is not a high end board, and likely made for the i7 5880k with the limited PCI-E lanes. It is just fine for 1-2 GPUs.

Somewhat like the old X79 SLI Motherboard from EVGA the low end of their X79. You have seen X99 Motherboard for sale?

Sorry for your luck however I've had exactly the opposite experience both Z77 and Z87 MSI gaming boards that I have used were the best I've had in years in term of stability, over clocking and bios usability and features. No RMA's for me last 4 MSI boards but the bios used to be problematic prior to Z77 and I got rid of those quick, but MSI has been constantly improving and their investment has paid off. I for one am truly looking forward to Z97 gaming 7 and or Z99 XX?. For the moment I'm on the fence which way I'm going to go with my next build but MSI will get my first choice based on recent history.

I have liked mine a lot. My last three were MSI. One I burnt out due to high voltage while using Phase Change cooling, but that is to be expected. Other than that, no problems. My EVGA 780i SLI and EVGA X58 on the other hand were very picky and temperamental.

I would like to see a X99 board design that has dual PLX PEX 8747 chips with the following layout where each slot has spacing for a dual slot card. Slot 1 and 2 @ 16x -> 8747 #1 Slot 3 and 4 @ 16x -> 8747 #2 8747 #1 -> Upstream @ 16x -> CPU 8747 #2 -> Upstream @ 16x -> CPU Slot 5 @ 8x -> CPU Slot 6 @ 4x 2.0 -> X99 PCH - For sound and RAID cards For gamers this would be handy for a quad SLI + Physx configuration. For people like me that run these boards for compute, being able to run 5x cards on one board with maximum throughput to each card would be great. I think there may have been an ASRock x79 board with dual 8747s but this board did not have the extra 8x slot if I remember correctly.

Back from the dead LR? Luck of the draw I guess! I still won't buy another MSI or eVGA, not for awhile anyways. Looking at AsRock or Gigabyte for my Z97 rebuild. I won't even look at another X-Chipset till X-100 comes out, for a my main rig.

I would like to see the EVGA X99 board design like it is written on the pcb of the computex proto: Slot 1 named pcie_x16_x8_1 populated running @ 16x Slot 2 named pcie_x8_2 empty Slot 3 named pcie_x8_3 populated running @ 16x Slot 4 named pcie_x16_x8_4 empty little non vga slot 5 named pcie_x4_5 empty Slot 6 named pcie_x8_6 populated running @ 8x I'm asking this because the sapphire r9 290 tri x uses a little bit more than a dual slot, and setting the cards like above would free half a centimeter of air between the cards avoiding the fan to touch the pcb of the lower r9 card.. Will the link be directly connected to the CPU 5930k ? If that's the case then I definitely buy the x99 mobo from evga, as they are the only one providing such a feature (aside the old x79 fatal1ty chamption from asrock).

the EVGA board was a prototype and does not demonstrate any of the EVGA x99 variants. Though we figure that it would be closest to the X99 ftw board due to a single cpu 8-pin power.

That would be great if a mobo offers the user possibilities to route the pcie lane to the processor based on his selection (in the bios for hte plex or with a switch on the mobo), such that you can use the 40x lanes available.

It is pretty much final other than colors on the lanes and slots as per the podcast I linked above. Definitely looks to be the x99 FTW. I am still hoping someone from EVGA can confirm the distance between the top PCI-E lane and the DIMM slots above.

that's a z97 classified not x99, the image name isn't even right as it says that its a x79 dark.
