If you obtain a PCIe x16 riser card like this one -> http://www.newegg.com/Pro...-_-STARTECH-_-16129055
You can solder to it your molex connector, and then just plug it into an empty slot. Or get a PCIe x1 riser and do the same.

    I dont think that the pcie slot is made to have that kind of power being sent into it, you would have to deal with teh resistance of the pins.... on the molex mod soldering it on the back of the board, it is designed to handle that kind of power going though the pcie lanes. Good idea but your asking for trouble pumping power into a pcie slot directly ... bad idea...

    The reason there is more than one trace for 12 volts is to divide the load.
    PCIe 2.0 is rated 150w., if memory serves.
    If you solder a load line to the ATX plug solder points, that could put too heavy a load on the long, cross board traces. IMHO that would be worse and expensive.

    Also if you did draw "too much" power, would it not more likely burn out the flimsy traces on the PCIe riser board, thereby allowing you to stop what you were doing and never do that again!

    my thoughts exactly. this is why with the classy it is fine, but any other board it will have to go to each individual pci-e lane direct. not just to one for all.
