Im only getting about 120 FPS in bf4.  Im running 2 970 FTW in SLI.  I get about 70 Fps with 1 card running.  Have swapped them around and nothing changed. Im running 1080p on ultra settings. Tried all the drivers with clean install every time.  This is around the same FPS I was getting with my GTX 670 FTW in sli.  Any suggestions?   Thanks  Tim

2x or 4x MSAA? Honestly that doesn't seem too far off, but keep in mind BF4 is a pretty CPU hungry game.

Have you tried any other games?

Check out in video setting resolution scale, it should set to 100% to get good FPS. I think 120 fps is good fps for 2 gtx 970. Im getting 170-200 FPS with 3 GTX 980s.

It's at 100%.  4X MSAA.  My gpu usage on both cards is only 50-60% over 6 minute time frame.  These cards should be getting more frames then my 670's did.  I wonder if its something in the nvidia settings.  A member in my clan has a gtx 780 and with same settings is getting 140-150 Fps on 1 card.  Thanks again for help

Adjusted power management mode in nvidia control panel to prefer maximum performance and that help a lot.  GPU usage is up to 80% and FPS is hitting 120-160 now.  I will keep at it.  Will update anything else I find.

Am I missing something here? How is that considered "Low FPS"

It's low if its the same Fps as my previous gtx 670's.  Expected more for $800.  But I will figure this out.

There's no way he's getting that much with a 780 running flat Ultra. To get 90 fps with my old 780 SC ACX I ran ultra textures, 2XMSAA, high terrain detail, no ambient occlusion or motion blur, low water and medium mesh and shadows.

Think you clan mate is not telling you everything. Some with the GTX 780 owners are pissed since the new cards come out and want to down play the new cards. Just like owners of the corvettes. "I don't know why he bought the new vette mine runs faster". Was going to post about the power settings but you already figured it out.

You're really limited by your CPU here. While your CPU supports PCIe 3.0 it's really intended for systems running a single graphics card. This particular CPU only has 16 PCIe lanes. When you add-up the fact that your SATA controllers, NIC, onboard or expanded audio, plus your graphics cards are all sucking down lanes you're CPU is the major bottle neck here.

Your CPU only supports running one card at x16. If you run two cards each will run at half the bandwidth x8 x8. This a major limiting factor when your pushing extreme graphics at 1080p and above.

You really wont reap the full potential of your graphics cards using an i5 CPU. You'll need an i7 with 40 PCIe lanes to eliminate all bottlenecking in your system. Get the lead out!

The regular i7s don't have more lanes than any of the i5s. the high end i7 processors that generally cost way more and run off of a different socket size do.

At any rate, having the extra PCI-E lanes has been proven to not have much of an impact, certainly not the impact he's looking for. See Puget Systems' article when you google search 'more pcie lanes make a difference'. I can't share links until I have enough posts.

False. Normal SATA III 6GB ports do not use PCI-E lanes, only SATA Express and M.2 use up to 2-4 lanes of PCI-E. NIC, onboard audio, dedicated audio, raid cards & etc. that you connect to x1-x4 PCI-E slots use PCH lanes so they don't affect CPU lanes.

It may be because the OP is not running default nvidia control panel settings.

I really never messed with nvidia control panel except that power setting yesterday.  But since that power setting its running much better.  I looked last night at work at the going with x99 motherboard, cpu, and the ddr4 but damn thats a lot of money.

You should be getting more CPU usage than 80% so something is definitely holding your system back.
    I've run twin 670's, 770's, 780's, and 780 Ti's in SLI, all generate consistent 90-99% CPU usage in BF4.
Are you running Win 7 or 8.1 and hopefully x64?
Could your 970's possibly be throttling?

BF4 is CPU intensive, so it will undoubtedly take advantage of the 4 extra threads with an i7 (vs. i5).

Do you have the "Shader Cache" setting on the "ON" setting in NVIDIA control panel? It needs to be set to on. If it is on, your CPU seems to be choking.
