Hello all, I recently bought an EVGA GTX 980, and has been doing great. But there is one game I keep losing the HDMI signal when playing, and that is FFXIV: Heavensward. I finished the main story using this card with no issues, it's the expansion when it started. And it's the only game I keep losing the signal to. I've tried switching the HDMI cable, updating the drivers, and other troubleshooting tips with Nvidias help but nothing is helping. Is this is issue with the HDMI port with the card or just the game itself?

Edit: In addition, when I lose the signal, the white LED lighting on the card goes completely dead. It's only upon restarting my rig that the lighting comes back on and I regain my signal.

Thanks.

this happens to me but i am using DVI for 60+ frames, and mainly happens in GPU heavy games, happens 1-2 times a week, since i bought the card, evga suggested i change the pci slot lol. hasnt happened so far on 353.83 hot fix drivers, upon losing signal, my pc would restart, and my motherboard would beep at me saying there is no gpu detected, would have to turn the pc off and back on for it to detect it again

I'd like to say it's the game, but since your card is loosing power it's gotta be the card. A game shouldn't ever cause your card to lose power.

Lol highly doubt that changing into a different PCI slot will fix the issue. Hmm yeah I had a feeling it's hardware related Sajin, likely to just go and RMA the card and get a replacement. Thanks for your guys input.

Give the following threads a good read:

First link is a dead one, but was able to read the second.

Okay, to begin with, I'm not experiencing any BSoD. When I do lose the signal, the screen goes black at first, then blue to tell me "HDMI No Signal" and goes back to black like it's in sleep mode. My memory is good, did a recent check on that and nothing is wrong. It is possible it's driver related, I'm not 100% sure on that, right now I'm using the 353.38 Hotfix driver that Nvidia supplied directly. Possible PCI slot? Could be, but again I was using a Radeon 7970 before switching and never experienced any problems (yes I did uninstall all ATI drivers beforehand). 12V rail issue, unlikely in my opinion. The PSU is fairly new, it's an EVGA 1300W G2. I am also not using any problems such as Precision X or Afterburner. DirectX is up to date. I do have the latest BIOS for my MB and everything.

Yeah, after going through the link I noticed others have had problems with FTW model. What a pain.

Yeah, quite a few crash dump files. The latest one is dated June 28, 2015. That one was from playing Batman Arkham Knight, which was unexpected.

Know its not what you want to hear but, I would recommend starting an RMA request if you haven't already. Or at least get them on the phone. Sounds like you may have a bad one, it happens.

Links seem to be working fine for me. Here is the first link again. The ftw cards have issues. EVGA tech support is currently working on a fix for them.

No, all the other ones are ATI related, I remember that nightmare.

Hmm interesting. Guess I picked a wrong model for the GTX series. As Sajin said, they seem to have issues with the FTW ones, just my luck :p

Yeah, I'm afraid I have no choice but to RMA the card. Had to do that support ticket first, waiting to see what EVGA says. But yep, it happens. First time I upgraded to the Radeon 7970 my card died in a month, would shut down my whole computer. Turned out the voltage levels were a little too high, so they had to lock it.

Don't waste your time with RMA. They will probably send you another FTW card with the same problem.

I suggest you wait for the BIOS fix. And if they still can't get it to work ask for a different model or a refund.

We already know what the problem is. Nothing is going to help until we get a BIOS update from EVGA.
And even the update might not fix the issue. Nobody know yet. So everyone are waiting to hear the news from EVGA.

For what it's worth. Using a Evga power supply fixed every issue I had with my 980ftw. It makes no sense, but it worked. I RMAd my first 980ftw and the second card was a little more stable, but had the same exact problems. I tested 3 other power supplies previously (antec and 2 corsair) and I had full system crashes and driver crashes with all 3. The corsair is a 850w fully modular gold gaming PSU. All 3 of those psu currently reside in gaming pcs and have no problems at all. They power a 670 ftw, 570, and a 470. After installing a Evga 750 GS gold psu that I added because I built a htpc I had no issues at all. Not even one crash for 3 weeks. I recently stepped up to a 980ti. So I couldn't test it any longer. Good luck.
