I just got in my 750ti ftw graphics card, and have it installed, 6 pin and it won't boot. I get the 6 beep 6 red light series error graphics card related. I'm leaning towards the power supply being insufficient even at 575 watt. But am not sure or defective card.

System is
Hp xw6400

2x Xeon e5345 quad (Clovertown)

2x2 DDR 2 ECC fb 4gb ram (soon to be 4x4 16gb)

1dvdrw drive

1 1tb SATA hdd

2 rear main fans

2 CPU fans

1 memory fan all look like they're 80mm

The power supply is a Delta(factory) DPS-575AB the amps on the 12v rails listed, it looks like 2 12v rails covers the CPUs the highest amps is on the 12V+ D which is 14.5amps I don't know a thing about psu's tho. It looks like I have 4 rails. I don't know how old a psu gets before it loses it's amp/watt ratings. However I also don't want to fork out for a psu if the card is defective.

    xeon256,
The first thing I would recommend for you to do would be to make sure your motherboard's BIOS is up to date. Navigate to HP's website and see if there is an updated version you can flash your motherboard with. In most cases, If the BIOS is out of date (especially on pre-built systems) it will not recognize the newer generation video-cards. Also, are you able to get any visuals at all upon start up (splash screen) or does it remain black?

The bios is up to date, latest version that HP has available. Nothing comes up on the screen just black.

    xeon256,
Does your motherboard have an on-board video? If so, You may want to go into your BIOS and make sure your primary video adapter is set for VGA. You may also want to try the card in a different PCIe slot on your motherboard (if available). Additionally, If you have access to another computer I would recommend testing your card in that system to make sure it is the card that is causing the problem.  If the problem follows the card then we can be confident that replacing it will fix the problem.

It doesn't have on board video, and this is the only tower in the house and among friends. I'll try the other slot, but I think it's a half power slot like a 4 or a 8x

It's fine if the other slots are less than 16x, We just want to perform this test to see if the 16x slot has malfunctioned in some way. Update us with your results.

Ok I popped the Quadro it came with back in and it's working fine. So I'm down to psu being too weak and or evga's 750ti being doa. Need help. The Quadro works, which I think is a fx1500, what do I do? The second PCI x16 isn't a bootable slot, only the full PCI x 16. How do I know it's psu vs returning the card for rma replacement? The slot and I assume mobo is fine. How do I determine if it's psu or a defective card?

It is possibly, still, incompatible with a pre-built system. Hopefully the card isn't doa, although it is a possibility.

It's most likely cause the tower is just too old and the last bios available was from 2010, rev 2.38 .

Not so sure it's the bios. I had a gtx650ti in there before that card burned out(cheap Chinese no name junk). But! At least my mobo and pciex slot is still good.

The problem with many of these pre-builts is that they don't seem to recognize the 700 series cards.  The 650 Ti may have worked fine, but the 700 series cards (from EVGA, at least) come pre-flashed with a UEFI BIOS.  That seems to be what many of these motherboards are having difficulty with.  If you take a look at a comparable pre-built system from that OEM shipping with Windows 8/8.1, you wouldn't see any issues with the 750Ti FTW, as they use newer hardware that can recognize UEFI on video cards.

Sooo then what should I do? Take a chance with the rma or return it to Amazon for refund?

Given what I've seen with similar systems, an RMA won't likely help you.  If you can test the card in a different system, preferably a non-prebuilt system, you'll probably find that the card works fine.  I hate to recommend sending an EVGA card back, but that's likely to be the end result.

Yeah, I was looking into it, decided to return it to Amazon. Ordered a 660 instead.

I certainly hope so. I found out after doing a autopsy of my "650ti" it had a nvg92 in it. Soooooooo this should be a big jump. Lol
