Just bought a 980, now all I get is a black screen no matter what GPU I use.

I had an EVGA 780TI working great. My EVGA 980 arrived so I swapped. All I got was a black screen. After taking the card out and putting it back in a few times nothing changed. Giving up I put my 780ti back in and now that just gives me a black screen too.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Edit: My mobo gives the code A0 which is normal so I don't think it detected anything was wrong.

Did you uninstall the old card first?

If not try booting into safe mode, then uninstalling it before inserting the new one. Hope this helps!

Make sure its not taking the Intel HD Graphics 4600 as the primary video source, then, check all the power connectors on the graphics card, but i didn't understand if you're not having any video at all, not even bios or what, but i guess that probably can be the internal graphics, try connecting the monitor directly into the MB output.

PS: It's kind of overkill a 980 with that monitor / resolution configuration...

No I didn't uninstall the old nvidia drivers, I just did it now (running from my onboard video). I'll retry again.

This isn't my primary monitor, just a small cheap secondary one.
I disabled the HD4600 in device manager, I'll try to figure out how to that in the bios too.

And no video at all, no post no nothing, but it does look like my computer is booting up as normal behind the blackness.

Well you should give a try connecting only one monitor into the computer without any of the video cards, try to get into windows, download the DDU Tool http://goo.gl/5xV95B, run it on safe mode, so it clean all your previous drivers.

You should also try using a different PCI EX Slot, verify your power cables, and go again for it.
    Give it a try...

I strugged with the same issue using display port. I had to set my igpu to be primary to even get into windows, then i had to us Display Driver Uninstaller to remove all traces of the intel drivers which were causing windows to crash on boot. Then i could switch back to the discreet gpu and install Nvidia drivers. I used to use my igpu for audio to keep the extra display load off the main gpus. Now I'm having issues getting the igpu working in windows. Trying a reformat now.

Sort of the same problem here :-(

Just uninstalled my two previous GTX 690s which were working perfectly and installed my two new EVGA GTX 980 SC and I get no picture, no bios, no POST no nothing :-( (and I can hear Windows starting up normally through the speakers). Tried everything I can imagine: the cards are definitely "clicking" in correctly in the PCIe-slots, the power connectors are all plugged in, the SLI-bridge is on (correctly), the monitor is connected via DVI-I (tried both cards), tried switching places and running the cards single as well. Just nothing, so pretty disappointed (and at my wits' end).

HDD (OS): Samsung EVO 830 SSD 120GB

Trying booting in safe mode first.
If you past this part and windows shows.
    Trying removing the driver completely.
Reboot and reinstall driver then reboot again to see if it is working.

I updated my bios and now everything works. Doesn't make sense really because why did my 780 stop working? Very strange but all's ok now :)

To the person with the same issue what motherboard do you have? Try updating the bios and or restoring the bios defaults. Tell me what mobo you have and I'll see what I can find about its bios.

Edit: Nevermind just noticed it's a Asus Rampage IV Formula x79.

Edit 2: Did you change the Primary Video Controller to PCIE in the bios?

Edit 3: Actually I think it must be set to GFX0-GPP-IGFX-PCI, it's a bit tricky to know exactly what bios you're using so it's one or the other.

I wouldn't say nevermind - someone in another thread with a Gigabyte mobo had to update their BIOS to get it working - might need to with the Asus, as well.

I meant nevermind about telling me his mobo cos I noticed he already said what it was.

    Sad story so far :-(

Tried with a displayport-cable between gpu and monitor, same problem, no signal.

Then I tried updating my BIOS and that went super-bad. I used the Asus bios flash utility which means that you can flash the bios without the screen just by plugging in a USB-drive with the BIOS-version on it and letting it update in standby. So, got the latest version and it seemed to update without problems but as I tried to turn the computer on it powered up for just a second and the down and then up again, and so on until I pulled the chord. So then I used the BIOS switch button to switch to secondary bios (original) and then I'm back at square 1, I can hear windows starting normally through the speakers but get no signal to the monitor.

Then I read that Asus wants you to convert your Bios from ROM to CAP to install the latest and so I downloaded the conversion utility and tried it with the bios flash again but same result :-( . Don't really know what to do next.

Don't have that option in my bios, the X79 platform only supports external graphics card and it's currently working fine with an old GTX275 I found. Going to try to update bios now.

And is solved!! Definitely a BIOS issue but tricky to work anyways, first had to convert my old BIOS from ROM to CAP structure and then apply the latest BIOS version and worked like a charm
