I don't use MOLEX to SATA adapters on my SSDs and I know most of you probably don't either, but in case some of you do.....Don't just in case.

Most of these adapters I have ever seen have such shoddy construction it's almost scary to use them.  Even many of the Molex->3/4pin fan adapters make me nervous.  There's SO much play in the molex connectors and I have seen the wires pop out as well.

A little over the top, worst case scenario.

If the wire is coated in rated insulation and the insulation is intact; I throw the BS towel on this claim.

The current and voltage involved is not enough to burn through properly rated insulation and cause a dead short.

So the lesson should be; inspect it before using it and do not buy junk --> if the insulation rating is not on the wire it is junk

Don't shoot the messenger, I am just passing on a bit of information I read on Crucial site while complaining about my SSD RMA.  I too have used the adapters in the past, but never with a SSD. I am letting everyone know that damage from this is not covered under the warranty.

Yeah this makes no sense, the wires on you molex cables coming from the PSU are in the exact same configuration, how come those don't explode into fire? Oh right, if you use properly insulated cables there is nothing to worry about.

Not shooting the messenger; thanks for sharing your find

To be clear Crucial's message seems odd.  The only part I do 100% agree with is, that a quality PSU is a MUST!

The most over looked, taken for granted, important part of your build is the PSU--> not the place to look for large savings unless it is on sale.

I read this part and thought to pass it on "In these adapters, a lack of proper shielding can allow an electrical arc to jump between the black (ground) and either the 5.5V red or 12V yellow line. When this happens, the plastic between the lines is known to melt and catch on fire,"  I say "Better safe then "Oh crap my rig is on fire"
