Do they really expect things like this > LINK< to sell at a price like that? This DIY kit would probably be $300 at the most

Yes, there are people out there with more money then brains. I was bidding on a new Genuine Porsche Motorsport Racing hat, trying to get it cheaper then a guy that is selling them with Buy It Now only. The auction ended up going higher then you could buy the hat from the other seller. Freaking idiots out there.

Sometimes when i'm selling something on eBay it's because I couldn't sell it through other means, like the forums or craigslist. A few times i've posted something on eBay and someone on craigslist or the forum contact me wanting to buy what i'm selling and i'll mark up the price of the item on eBay to a range where I know no one will buy what i'm selling. The reason I do that is because eBay added something to their policy last year that made it so you are penalized if you try to end an auction early, they'll charge you ending value fee on what you were selling. http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html @Kram - That sounds like shill bidding to me. eBay does not catch them all of the time, but I see it happen from time to time. It's easy to spot it out when you look at the sold listings. Also, another thing to keep in mind is... even though something sold for a certain amount, doesn't mean they actually paid for the item.

My eBay pet peeve is the "or best offer" ad's. You try to place a bid and they won't accept anything lower than the buy it now price.

I wonder about people with a zillion sales and 100% positive feedback, don't you have to make deals with the devil to get 100% feedback? or just get really lucky to avoid people griefing with negative feedback from throwaway accounts?

Ebay is such a den of scammers. Too many stories to tell.. suffice to say, I despise it with a passion.

I've had that happen. A seller had a new Borla exhaust listed for my Boxster, he had in the listing to contact him before purchase to make sure it was in stock. So I contacted him asking if it was in stock and what his lowest best offer price would be. He replied back he couldn't sell it any less then what the Buy It Now price was. So why in the heck did he have the Best Offer in his listing? z999z3mystorys I wonder about people with a zillion sales and 100% positive feedback, don't you have to make deals with the devil to get 100% feedback? or just get really lucky to avoid people griefing with negative feedback from throwaway accounts? I've been selling on eBay since 2001, perfect 100% feedback, I would jump through whatever hoop to make a person happy if they had an issue. Then one day, some jack buys a cpu from me. Gives me negative feedback saying the cpu didn't work. He never contacted me about it or even asked for a refund.

I had someone do that once so I refunded the money and got the cpu back, and of course it worked just like when I shipped it off. Anymore I just post no returns/refunds since this is a working item pulled from a working system.

It's priced at that because it's probably currently out of stock and they don't want to end the listing. Nobody is going to purchase it at that price and they can easily just change it back to normal when the new stock arrives. I've seen places do this on multiple occasions. It's easier to just make the price absurd than redo the listing.
They must run out of stock very often because everything they have is absurdly overpriced > LINK<

bill1024 I think what some people do is have a couple accounts. They list buy it now for some crazy high price, so when you see it for sale at a lower price you bid/buy. And if someone is foolish enough to buy it at the high price, all the better for them.
Exactly...I have a friend who made selling on Ebay a side business up until around 2005 and he used all the tricks you could think of putting more coin in his pocket.I enjoyed buying on Ebay for years but with how everyone including their grandmothers are selling(at terrible prices/people bidding and paying much more than a brand new product @ a brick%mortar store),I personally have not used my Ebay account since...ummm...2006.Sad,it was a great place to grab a deal...those days are long gone.
