Was reading about this. It seems like I may potentially get a faulty card since it is a hardware issue. So buying a 1080 FTW is a gamble?

Even then, I may still grab it since RMA will most likely take it without complaint. Just want to know.

If you buy it directly from eVGA it should no longer have the issue.  From anyone else, maybe.  But yes, they have been doing advanced RMA and you would get a new unit in retail box.

@EVGA- the FTW Hybrids are starting to appear at Microcenter stores. Is it safe to buy these? Also if one were to buy one there, can we call EVGA support prior to opening the box and provide the serial number to confirm it has been fixed?

I'm not under the impression you can buy directly from EVGA in Canada. I'll be buying from Canadian Newegg. If not the MSI Sea Hawk is cheap at Memory Express.

All 1080 FTW cards that have been shipped since the beginning of September have had the fix applied. This is true for both the US and the EU. This issue has only effected a small number of GTX 1080 FTW cards but as this is the most popular 10 series card we provide there have been a number of reports. If you find you are experiencing this issue then contact us at 888-881-3842 or email support@evga.com so we can assist you with a speedy replacement.

Can you provide more details on the fix? What was causing the issue in the first place?

So, as long as Newegg's Canadian stock isn't a month or more old, the card should be fine.

Read through the other thread.  They only say it is a hardware issue.  They never answered exactly what and aren't going to start now.

Yes, newer stock should, in theory, should be fine.

The fix is something that should only be applied in-house at EVGA. I cannot divulge any information that could lead to attempted board level fixes that would void the warranty. I apologize for the limited information.

As long as the card you purchase was shipped from our facility starting September 1st then this issue will not occur. EVGA's authorized retailers sell these units very quickly and the issue only effected a small number of units so the chances of getting a card with this issue is extremely low at this point.

First time I've seen that stated.  It makes complete sense when referenced that way for people that have had this issue.

Should sticky that to put a stop to all the conspiracy type posts about EVGA trying to hide something. Great answer Joseph.

This is the most open and honest communication regarding the issue to date. I appreciate your response, had EVGA stated this from the start I would of kept mine as well many others.

A mod should probably lock this thread up or combine them to keep the traffic in the other thread.

Yup +1 on that locked Sticky for explanation for the people wondering why no info on the fix was stated. Thank you Joseph for the statement.

Please keep in mind that this is related to a stability issue that can effect any card. Being as I have worked with thousands of graphics cards I can assure you that these symptoms are not unique to GTX 1080 FTW's (a google search will yield several results with other models and series' with the same symptoms). Cards that are factory overclocked are more susceptible to issues like this.

Although you have experienced this issue after the fix was applied there are still going to be a much smaller fraction of cards that will still have this or similar hardware issues. I do see that you have already begun the RMA process with us but if you have any other issues or specific questions about your experience feel free to PM me or email supportEU@evga.com.

I bought FTW from B&H on sept. 25th. it was a bad card. EVGA RMA'd for me and it's been good. so yeah, there are still bad cards floating around.
