Is there a better one that's free, or is VLC good enough?

    VLC has native codec handling and a ton of nitty gritty tweaks you can do so I always use that. Most Anime watchers swear by MPC-HC player for the way colors are shown.

    I prefer the CCCP Codec download that includes Media Player Classic.

    I have tried VLC myself, and it was OK, I prefer Media Player Classic (MPC-HC), works great and I have had far less oddities with it.

    User of VLC for past many, many years. Wont recommend version higher than 2.0.8.
     
    Heard a lot of praise and recommendations for MPC-HC. Most probably my choice of player when push comes to shove and 2.0.8 is no longer enough.
     
    I find Potplayer, GOM etc lame.

    Case: CM Elite 334.
    PSU: Corsair CX 430.
    Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M LE.
    Optical Drive: HP 1270i.
    CPU/HSF: Intel Core i5-3570/CM Hyper 212 Plus.
    Ram: 2x4gB Corsair VS.
    HDD: 180gB Intel SSD 330 Series, WD Blue 500gB-320gB.
    GPU: EVGA GTX 660 FTW Signature 2.
    Monitor: Samsung BX2031.
    Mouse/Keyboard: G102/X7 G800.
    Mousepad: Razer Vespula ME3 edition.

    i still use MPC with Klite for all my media needs it works very very well

    Been using it forever now and it works just fine for what it does. K-Lite, CCCP and all these other codec bundles are all basically the same thing.

    I use VLC to playback most of my movie too.
     
    It's a shame that there are a lot of codec that W10 still does not support natively

    Windows Media Player just downloaded itself. It asked me to do the settings, and I did. I guess I won't have to worry anymore about which one to download.
