I would be more impressed if they had left all the cores enabled in the process. (Hyperthreading too)

I won't be impressed by oc results until we see real world chips under real world conditions with real world overclocks.  Intel's cherry-picked chips with LN2 vapor powered results don't interest me.

    Exactly!

Just realized it says 2 cores 2 threads... I wonder what was possible with 8 cores (with or without hyperthreading).

Only 2 Cores at 1.753 Vcore on LN2 using Windows XP would definitely Not break any Futuremark Benchmark Scores in the Real World.

What's the point of OCing just one or two threads, just hawking for coverage?

Looks like real world OCing can expect somewhere between 4 and 4.5, although I'm very curious to see the current draw on a stable 4.5Ghz...  If a 980X could fry motherboards and power connectors, then a fat 8-core chip is going to have the same capability. I foresee a return of lots of fried boards and melted EPS12V connectors.

Looks good for an ES chip. Remember the ES chips generally don't clock as well as retail. My guess is the best retail chips on LN2 will be hitting around 6600-6800MHz. This suggests air clocks should be from 4.3-4.5GHz, liquid cooling in the realm of 4.8GHz or so and above 5GHz will require phase change units to be 24/7 stable. (Just my guesstimates)

I never understand why it bothers people to see what the chip and it's architecture can do in ideal conditions.

Don't get me wrong I love all aspects of the OCing sport but I really want to see all 8 cores pushed to the limit.

Curious about the last sentence? Are you referring to 2 cores and ln2 as ideal? Because, to me at last, ideal would be a chip running at what it was meant to, which is at least the 8 cores. I can look past the fact that pouring ln2 constantly isn't ideal at all, ever.

I think "ideal" is very subjective word. Ideal for me for my liquid cooling is a custom water cooling with a 360 rad for the cpu and maybe board also. For some ideal is air cooling, as that is what they can afford/willing to risk. Though the 2 cores only is definitely not ideal, majority of users that want a 8 core cpu is because they want 8 cores not 2, if they wanted 6 they would got with a 5930k. 4 with a 4790k and 2 with a pentium.

I think ideally, we think a lot a lot on this subject, lol.

I can't pay 1000$ for processor. I would like, and probably if I found money on street I would pay immediately i7-5960X,
but it's very heavy for me to invest something prepared for other hardware when I can't get more performance in situation where I use computer.
Special because next year Skylake can give higher fps in games than my 1000e CPU if I pay i7-5960X. But some six core is completely OK.
For graphic card situation is difference, immediately fps jumps on highest settings and again some maximum price is about 750. I think i7-5820K is just for me Processor.
I mean 8 cores overclocked on 4.0 GHz is very nice, special because this generation OC nice but...
