Did they not do this to the 3820(non k) series? This is basically the same thing, or will they do that on all the processors?

When someone 'cracked' the BIOS and first did this I said in another post about this discovery that Intel isn't going to let the people get away with this and I was right. As far as I can tell from reading the article only the non-k CPUs will be affected and have that hole plugged. Intel is getting upset that people are saving money by buying the non-k processors and still having the ability to OC them. If it wasn't unlocked and intended to be overclocked Intel intends to lock these processors down again. The only way to avoid this is apparently to never update your BIOS.

I didn't know it was posted already. Since I am outranked I guess this will get locked. I should've known better than to post something from techpowerup. LOL

Yeah Manbearpig, I have/had the 3820(non-k), and the cores are not unlocked, but partially unlocked, meaning it can only be overclocked to 4.0. Anything beyond, it will not boot. THat's not to say I can't overclock by the BLCK. Never bothered to.
So, with that said, is this what Intel is going to do is take that "privilege" away too? And make it where you try to overclock by even 1%, it will not boot?
