no Way that i7-4770HQ will be bottlenecking gtx 1070
but why would you want a 1070 on a mac ... not like you can play games on it or anything :P

I'm running Windows 10 on BootCamp... I don't know much about computers but my friend told me it might bottleneck the GTX 1070 so I posted and forums to make sure what he said was correct...

i see, you still lose some performance on the way via Bootcamp oh well.
anyway... your I7 will not bottleneck your 1070 in any way. hell it won't even bottleneck a 1080. so you can go and grab a 1070 with a calm mind :)

Realistically a bottleneck with the CPU in this scenario is the least of your worries. The graphics card may very well not work at all in this third party graphics adapter. The Thunderbolt interface may cause very high latency and not allow the card to run at max performance anyway. There are issues with customers using external graphics card enclosures with systems designed to use them like a Razer Blade with the Razer enclosure. So I would not recommend this solution at all.

It's understandable and that's why we are here and happy to help. :)

There are many youtube videos about this and they are all working well... a bit of performance loss on the way in some scenario (speaking about 5% + -) but all in all it's a solution.

the only thing to worry about at this moment with 1xxx cards + mac is the nvidia drivers. they are not ready more or less.

The point being that if the card ever has performance issues, there will be little troubleshooting that we will be able to provide as the card is being used in a solution that we do not support. The only way that we recommend using any video card in a Windows desktop PC where the card is connected directly to the motherboard, anything else is an unsupported gray area.

That's understandable and i am sure he is aware of that.(if not he is now:) ) i am just trying to help out. anyway... the drivers for MAC are not ready and the only way he will be able to use 1xxx card's is in windows via bootcamp (that's how others using it at this moment).
there is no info on nvidia OSX driver release to support 1xxx card's as of yet.

I found a adapter that converts thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 so I could get a Razer Core which might work better then a Akitio Thunder 2 PCIe Expansion? Buts the converter is $100 so its very expensive...

Im just looking for a good deal that is better than my Intel Iris Integrated graphics and can out perform a GTX 980... I don't mind losing 5% of the already Titan X beating performance!

I don't think I will be using my OSX side anymore because I prefer Windows mostly because if something goes wrong there is a way bigger community using Windows compared to OSX.

well, at the end of the day this is only an external pcie expansion slot's and all the graphics calculations are done within the GPU... all you have to transfer are the commands to the GPU and the video signal to the monitor. i am sure that either way will be fine.

I am sure that you will be happy to see this bench for mac :). you can see more or less what you are getting.

don't let the bench bar's spook you ... the gtx 1070 will be as fast as 980 TI and even a little bit faster with time (drivers etc)
