I'm looking to finally get away from 1080p and dive into 1440p. However I'm on the fence between an IPS panel without gsync or a TN panel with gsync. My budget is around $500 and because of that IPS with gsync is out of the question, so initially I'm considering this gsync monitor. But what do you guys think? Would gsync be worth it over IPS? I hate tearing which is why I was thinking about gsync but I've lived with normal vsync forever and am used to the input lag it brings in. But a lot of people have said that gsync is so much better so I'm really on the fence. I only use my computer for games, no video or photo editing.

TN=poor color reproduction and horrible viewing angles
IPS=seems to have a greater potential for uneven backlight, which can be very distracting
    G-SYNC=all kinds of awesome

I'd say to go for the G-SYNC monitor. If you're already using vsync, it'll give you even better performance and smoother gameplay. The color won't be as nice as it could be, but that's forgivable when it comes to gaming.

I went from 1440p IPS (60Hz) to 1440p TN G-SYNC (144Hz) and would do it again 10x over.  Yes the is a noticeable difference in colors ESPECIALLY if the panels are side-by-side BUT this is out of the box.  You can (and should) tweak the settings and/or download a color profile calibration for the monitor and it will really look much better.  I could immediately tell the difference with the G-SYNC and 144Hz and it was a very noticeable difference.  The tearing also used to give me a headache after a short time - now not at all.

Yes I definitely plan to calibrate the display to as good as I can get it. And some people claim that once you properly calibrated it, it can be pretty close to IPS aside from viewing angles which I'm not too worried about. My current 1080p monitor is TN and served me fine for a few years. Im liking the sound of gsync even more :)

The difference G-sync make for me is borderline amazing. it has one issue though. Once you use it you can never use a monitor without it. Its like watching 100+ FPS all the time. The fluidity is fantastic and makes the graphics look better even at lower settings. This is probably subjective though but how it is for me.

I've been worried about that monitor due to all of the QC issues.

I have recently ventured into the idea of getting a 1440p monitor as well. I was looking into the QNIX QX2710.

Dell S2716DG - can be had for about $500 ($450 AMZ open box).  If you're lucky enough to catch one of the coupon codes that Dell outlet often has you can get one for under $300...

I did a butt-load of research on that monitor and it seems that many are complaining about flicker problems and a few other issues. If you are going to try a Korean monitor, I would strongly suggest the Crossover 2795. A better panel than the 2710 and I have had it for about a year with zero issues. Overclocks to 100Hz pretty easy but I have mine on 96Hz to play it safe. Looks great, lighting is pretty uniform and colors look great. I paid less than $300 for the pixel perfect edition and I have zero dead pixels too.

How is the picture quality? And did you calibrate them or keep them as they were out of the box?

Out of the box - they were a little bright for my tastes - like stare at the sun burn your retinas bright.  Also out of the box the colors weren't that good either especially next to the IPS Acer monitors they replaced.  I used the icc profile and settings from TFTcentral (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm) and that brought them MUCH more inline with the ones I replaced.  Then I tweaked the settings to my own taste and have been happy ever sense.  I also really like the base / stand they come with because they are very solid, and adjust very well.

Nice! Glad to hear that you're able to calibrate it to be at least pretty close to what you had before. I think I will make it my next monitor. Thanks!

I got it today, it looks really nice. Definitely better than what I had before but unfortunately I had bad luck and got some dead pixels, so I've got another on the way and am returning this one. But definitely a nice display.

I was lucky and had no dead pixels out of the box on either of mine - maybe because they were refurb.  For all the stigma of how "OMG TN is so terrible" - this monitor really doesn't show it!  Also - not sure where you bought from but Newegg has it on sale for $479 - if you paid more maybe you can get a price match?  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260333&ignorebbr=1

It was indeed Newegg that I got it from. I spotted that sale as well and jumped for it. :P Also one reason why I like TN is no backlight bleed that IPS has and would be pretty annoying for me.

Anyone know of a good model 1440p monitor with glossy screen?  I like glossy because on my Acer 236.bid, the colors realy pop...and with IPS screen they stay consistent no matter what the angle...

Full on glossy...  Might be somewhat harder to find.  I know the QNIX 2710 monitors are available in glossy.  Also the Monoprice Glass http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=10489 is really going to be glossy (similar to a Mac display).  Then of course there's always the Mac Thunderbolt display - but for $1K you can do WAY better.

The Crossover 2795 is pretty much a thunderbolt display without a few of the features. Not sure if they offer it in glossy but I had mine overclocked to 100Hz in about 5 minutes.

Mine arrived Tuesday (2 says ago). I'm loving it.

But have been unable to register it on the Asus support site. I'm hoping its just a glitch and I didn't get a monitor someone snitched the serial number from to register to get the free game. I've got a support ticket in with Asus over the matter.

I haven't tried g-sync, so I can't tell what it's like not to have it. I'll take the word of those who say it's awesome, and look forward to trying it.

I recently went through this same thinking, and decided to skip 1440p and go straight to 4K. My reason is that with a lot of the 1440p monitors being larger than 24", in the end the pixel per inch resolution can be not all that much better than 1080p at 24". A 4K monitor at 28" or so, however, is far more dense. I've had this 4K monitor for several weeks now, and now that I'm used to the extremely fine resolution, I can't stand looking at my normal 24" 1080p monitor anymore.

Of course if you did decide to go 4K you'd have to have a suitably beefy video card. Thank heavens the 1080s were just released.

ps: I ended up getting the Monoprice 28" CrystalPro 4K on sale for $350, and it looks phenomenal

Well being that I got my first ever GSYNC monitor, I can say that I can never go back now. Everything is so dang smooth.

Did you end up getting your replacement??  I was really skeptical about spending the extra money on g-sync / 144Hz myself but it's totally worth the cost.

It will be here tomorrow. I'm really eager to receiving it and am hoping I'll get one with no dead pixels. I'll be sure to post back once I've got it set up. I really like the screen, just gotta win the pixel lottery haha.

I have recently ventured into the idea of getting a 1440p monitor as well. I was looking into the QNIX QX2710.

I remember now. Thanks for that information. That will probably be the route I take when I do.

After looking at it closely with a racing heartrate haha, I can happily say I don't see any obvious dead pixels and the screen is completely uniform.  I went ahead and downloaded the icc profile as well. Also I'm curious as to what your brightness/contrast and RGB settings are if you've changed those any.

Edit: I noticed in the NVIDIA Control Panel it says that this display doesn't support HDCP. Does yours say this too? Nevermind I looked up some reviews and it's not HDCP compliant over display port but is over HDMI. Not really a dealbreaker I bought this for gaming over anything else, I'll just have to use my TV for Netflix. What's strange is that the TFT review says it is HDCP compliant...strange

I considered this one too, but the price was just out of my range.
