I guess if they had one in development for the last year or so in secret 'just in case'. Rumors are there might be a 'GTX 990'  using two cut down GM 200 GPU's with 2x 6GB memory.

Another rumor thread? Nothing released, but plenty of rumors to fill the forums.

Back in the day... AMD released R9 290X beating GTX Titan in some benchmarks. However about 2 weeks later, Nvidia released GTX 780 Ti beating R9 290X in most benchmarks. I really think that GM 210 based card would be released If AMD's new flagship card beats Titan X. I haven't seen any rumors about that tho...

I predict that NVIDIA will eventually announce a new flagship card, which may initially be lab-tested by a few publications and online sites. We will see several threads asking when it will be released for sale. We might hear a tentative release date from NVIDIA. New forum threads will appear asking what the price will be, and then the inevitable complaints from some about how they can't afford it and how unfair NVIDIA is by forcing them to buy an outrageously priced card.

When the new card begins to appear for sale at online sites, demand will be great despite the high initial cost and dealers won't be able to keep it in stock. New forum threads will ask what day EVGA and online retailers will get the new cards back in stock. Threads will then question how well the Auto-Notify feature works at EVGA and online retailers. A few frustrated folks will threaten to never again purchase an NVIDIA card after being treated so shoddily. Finally, we will begin to see posts with unboxing pics of the shiny new cards. Months later, the dust settles and we begin to speculate on the next new thang. ;)

    Rinse and repeat.

What people should really focus on is what GPUs are capable of driving their Monitor exceptionally well while still being compatible (which is over looked) for their system, and while having the smoothest gameplay <--- this is all that needs to be focused on. Focusing on which company has the "better" card is like seeing & waiting on who can beat on the dead stump the hardest with an axe...The stump will stay there and be there for a very long time, trust me. AMD has good cards, Nvidia has good cards.

I'm thinking about going quad titan x's for solitare at a solid 40 fps, do you think it will run?

If the cards actually scroll when you release them on the wrong line, you will drop the the low 30's, minimum.

If you set then to snap, without scrolling, you will maintain close to 40.

but then if you win and get the animation, expect closer to 20, max

YES.  They will release Titan XXX and GTX T1080 to beat AMD.

Last time, the original Kepler Titan used a cut-down GK110; that was how when Hawaii appeared that nVIdia was able to introduce another Titan Black with a full GK110 die.  We don't have that scenario this time, the Maxwell Titan-X is already a full GM200 die, and a "GM210" won't have more CUDA cores.  There wasn't even a GM100, although one could argue that could have been the canceled 20nm version; and GM200 was a revision for 28nm.

Therefore, the answer is "no".  By GPU potential, 980GTX Ti has 9% less CUDA cores, but on any single-display resolution below 4K will show both cards basically overlapping each other.  Having 6GB means GTX980 Ti has the overhead power savings to ramp up factory overclocks and overtake Fiji-XT rather easily.  I see Fiji-XT and GM200 as equivalents, but the 4GB on Fiji-XT makes another faster Titan-X unnecessary until AMD comes up with 8GB versions, and that will be months away and with even more limited supply.

I see 28nm as done for nVidia, the next nVidia higher-end card will be 14nm Pascal in early 2016; and AMD will follow with 14nm Arctic Islands.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

For the games that I play a graphics card w/ 4Gb mem is plenty.....even looking at the latest upcoming game updates a vid card w/ 4Gb mem is still more than sufficient so due to this I am very interested to see if the new rumored AMD R9 390X can even get close to or TIE the TitanX performance-wise, cause if it can get within 4-5 FPS or better I will be going red on this round as it will most certainly be CHEAPER than a TitanX.....at least at the beginning of its debut it will until popularity starts to gin up the price........if all pans out as such..........

If the new AMD card beats the TitanX then I will settle for the 980Ti as AMD will jack the price at\above the TitanX which is over my limit........why I don't already have a TitanX card. Nvidia got me 1 time w/ the original Titan..........not going there again.

I will also be getting a new monitor as well w/ either AMD or Nvidia as these cards are specifically designed for Hi-Res, Hi Refresh Rate rendering so the minimum monitor I will be looking for is at least 4K, 144Hz refresh.....  I already have a DoubleSight DS-279W 2560 x 1440  60Hz  S-IPS panel LCD monitor which is working very well.............gonna have to have some prodding to go back to a TN panel just to get faster refresh rates.........................

Won't have long to find out now..................................

I might give AMD another go if this is the case. 550 for a card that performs as good at Nvdia's 1000 dollar card... I honestly hope that AMD slam dunks this one, as should all consumers of PC video cards.

I don't see this happening at a $550 price point.  Though I certainly hope that AMD hits a home run.  I have owned more than one of them.  More importantly, without competition, there is little incentive for innovation.

The thing about the 390X is the ram .. I remember back in the 4600Ti days as the 64Mb card was faster then the 128Mb card in most all benchmarks because it used a faster ram speed like 1.1ns and ram size played very little into it.

So I feel this is kind of what we are going see with the new AMD card as I feel the HBM is going make quick work out of Titan X and it's 12Gb of ram and I really don't see Nvidia having an answer until they also use HBM . this new card should have the gpu power of the 295x2 without crossfire and ram fast enough to feed it everything it will ever want .. but this is just IMO
