For those that needs an idea for using a filter for the front fan (intake). Here's what I did; I went out and purchased some air conditioner material at a True Value Hardware store. I cut it just a little bit bigger, I placed it between the screen and the bezel, screwed it down and voila!?

That's pretty cool.  I've been thinking of using the HAF-X for my next build.  Looks like a pain to clean though lol.  Maybe I'm just lazy though

Not really, Just grab the bottom of the bezel and pull out. I blow dust out of my keyboard, inside case, fans and filters using a small shop vac. Works great!!! Here's the exact one I use

Also, you can always run water over it and it dries rather quickly. And even quicker if you blow it using the mentioned shop vac. I've been doing this for many years. Also note that the material is the exact same stuff that Tt uses on some of their cases. I know the Kandalf did cuz I had one. Oh and you don't even need to remove screws or dismantle it.

Good to know!  I'll probably do this if I pick up the HAF-X soon

Also, I use a small shop vac also similar to that!

Today I cleaned out the filter for the first time in about a month. Yes i know but...I've been busy :/

All I did was remove the bezel, blew out the dust using that mini shop vac, then I washed it by running it under some water. Last I stuck it in the window to dry. It was completely dry under ten minutes. Of course, it's rather warm today but still...

Someone should try this if you are using the front as a intake

nice mod idea, but how good is the airflow? have you tried any other types of filters or screens?

Sure, but my idea is cheaper and the air flow is just as good or the same as any other filter. So no better or worse

thanks for clearing up the airflow question. I might give that type of material a try on a project I have going. Is it easy to clean?

I did this setup on my 932 works well..  but i took it one step more.

this is very similar material used in the performance automotive industry. the main difference is they use an oil spray to help dust stick to the media.

    so..

i already had some but you can go to the auto parts store and get a K&N filter charger kit its about $10.00.  what you do is clean the filter media as normal let it dry then apply a light coating of the oil spray to the foam facing the front of the puter and let sit for about 10 minuets then reinstall as normal. Later on, when it comes time to clean it you use the degreaser spray supplied in the kit let sit for a few minuets and wash rinse repeat.

what the oil spray does is it coats the fibers of the filter media making them much stickier and as dust particles pass by and bump into the filter they stick instead of passing through.

Sorry for the very late response and raising the dead but I had to comment on this: Wow...I'm not beating on you but that seems a lot more time consuming that my idea. Not to say that my idea is better than yours but I'm just saying. IMO that is more steps and work than using my method. But! your idea counts! and is valid. More ideas the better, yes? Thank you for adding your idea!! :)
