Wish mine was as fast as that or even Crap's speed. What I really would like is those upload speeds.

If you get 1.5MB download, you are indeed getting your full bandwidth. You're getting roughly 12Mb which is megabits that equals 1.5 megabytes. The difference is the uppercase "B" or lower case "b". Uppercase "B" equals bytes, lowercase "b" equals bits.

All current internet packages are advertised in megabits not megabytes. So take that megabit speed they are advertising and divide by 8 and that's how many megabytes the speed is. It's the duty of the consumer to educate themselves on something before they purchase it. It's not that they are being dishonest, they are indeed giving you a 12 megabit connection.

Well, good thing I don't pay for it lol. But that is irritating, I've never been a big networking person, I just thought I was only getting a portion of the bandwidth lol.

WOW wish mine was 1/4 that. So I have roadrunner turbo with some DL burst junk. When I take speedtest I get like 20 Mb/s if lucky, but it's really rated at 8 MB/s How much does that bust thing even help because I can get DSL w/ 11 Mb/s for the same price. I don't think we have FIOS?

(As far as I can tell) There is no software that can boost your speed above what the ISP allows you to get. When you speedtest, it shouldn't be affected by any software, whether you have it on or not. Software like DL Burst helps optimize connections to help you get faster speeds to certain servers, like with downloads and stuff. For instance, I may get 3.75 MB/s download speeds on speedtest, but when I download, say, app updates from iTunes I usually get about 2 MB/s. Basically, the software helps raise caps on certain sites. There is no software that will raise your own personal cap though.

I'm thinking about moving up to the 50Mbps line with comcast, but i'm just hoping it won't end up like what happened to CraptacularOne. This is what i'm getting so far:

Actually with crapcast they have something called "Turbo Boost" that raises your download speed for the 1st 20megs of a file download after that it levels out.

If I'm understanding you correctly that is through the ISP, correct? I'm talking about 3rd party software. I don't know of any that actually raises your own cap, only those that can help stabilize and improve connections to other servers.

Well, I'm happy for you guys, but for some reason I have a sick feeling in my stomach. I'm currently paying $50 for 8/1. The boost is like what Crap said the the ISP. You guys think the DSL a better deal then at 11/1 and no boost?

why should the companies upgrade their tech? I mean they up our prices every couple years without any service improvements and we just pay it....

How often do you actually download stuff? I've had internet from 100 KB/s to what I have now, and I have to say, unless your ping is suffering it may not really be worth it. I used to download MMOs and play xbox live and all that good stuff for a really long time, only reason why I upgraded from 100 to 350 KB/s. When we got FiOS TV, we had to get FiOS internet too, thus we got 25 over 5 mb/s. We recently dropped our home phone and upgraded to 25 over 25 mb/s. Browsing web pages won't really seem different with a 3 mb/s upgrade. You might download high res pictures a little faster, but overall I haven't noticed a difference in browsing over all of my upgrades. Unless you really are that impatient that you might need an extra 375 kB/s, I don't think it warrants an upgrade. Most websites hold caps at ~1 MB/s anyway. A few are starting to hit 2 MB/s though. To honestly answer your question I'd need to know your average download size, how often you download big things, and how impatient you are .

Gaming over DL. price is the same. differance is the boost + 8 down or 11 down and no boost but like Crap said I guess it only lasts for the first 20meg , so that not great.

Yeah, i'm paying for the 16Mbps connection, with speed boost it is supposed to go up to 20Mbps, sometimes I see it around 25Mbps. But it depends on when your running that test. During the busy time of day, I get the 16Mbps, during the best, around 25Mbps. You get the "Speed Boost" when the extra bandwidth in the area is available. So far I have actually been pretty happy with my connection, since it was an upgrade from a 5Mbps connection. Only problem I have had so far is having to reset my router a few times for some reason, never had that issue before... But it might just be time to replace my 6 year old wireless G router.

I can get up to 70Mb/s with my HOA included internet... too bad they have crappy quality. It will be running along just fine then all the sudden get massive amounts of jitter and packet loss. Free and faster doesn't always equal better.
