Guys... shouldn't he now focus on finding out what his max BCLK is and go from there? I was taught that this is always the first step in achieving a high end overclock. Here is a great DIY FAQ regarding how to do this: http://www.masterslair.co...ck-frequency-i7-i5-i3/

Here is a great DIY FAQ regarding how to do this: http://www.masterslair.co...ck-frequency-i7-i5-i3/ Okay. I have a 3 step overclocking guide and was doing that for a bit, however when I went to my goal bclk which was 200.. and went up to x20/21 multi it wouldn't post with vcore set to auto. I tried lots of settings.. went up VTT and what ever. still nothing. I've tried settings from other members either I hit high temps or I don't pass the 2nd IBT run. I've goosed vcore up to 1.4 and everything and I still fail. I want 4.2, but if it's not attainable with my chip I can cancel on my attempt. I know every chip is different and overclocking is the luck of the draw but I have this gut feeling that I can go there. *I have lots of faith in my hardware. Is it worth it for the 200 mhz over 4.0? if to get this much of a hassle. I too see the logic of isolating the bclk freq. from everything, but I don't know where to go from there.

LOL, there is a reason why I am still running @ 4ghz. It is called laziness. I would also be concerned about finding the issue with your high temps (given the liquid cooling). Even an H50 should be able to match those temps if not beat them.

Yeah, kind of what I was saying. Fix your cooling first. Then see if your chip can do it. Not every chip can do 4GHz. I even remember some people getting stuck at 3.8GHz.

Okay screw it. I am gonna clean my loop hardcore when I get some TIM. The only TIM they sale I can get locally is AS5, I am using some of the free sample stuff from a member here. Again I have This strong feeling that my system can do 4.2 d@ng it!!!! But from the looks of it, Do you think it's doable? But the settings I've tried so far?

Well, if you can hit 4.0 its looking better, but honestly, who knows given the variations in manufacturing.

You know what is crazy though. The whole reason for this was: 1. To get my RAM speed to 1600 atm it's 15xx @4.1 ghz stable setting 2. To join the 4.2 club I will try again when I get some thermal paste, I am aware of AS5 curing time but what other TIM's do you suggest with the least amount of curing time. I will have to order the stuff, they sell AS5 which is weird cause they sell it for xbox's.

v1ral, Not sure if you've done it, but try turning Turbo and HT off. With Turbo and HT on, I got to 4.37, but my Gflops were 55. With Turbo and HT off, I'm at 4.52 and my Gflops are a little over 65, RAM clocked a little higher and for some odd reason I was able to run tighter timings than at 4.37 at a lower block?? Not saying you'll get the same results, but it might help you get over the hump. You can decided what works best for you from there. Edit: You posted right before me about the 4.2 club. You'll need HT on for that.

Except you missed the part about why he is trying for 4.2 int he first place. The OP wants to get into the stability club, which requires him to have a stable clock of 4.2 or higher with H-T *on* (edit: as you obviously know given your signature tag).

Sorry for taking this tread off topic. I am thinking about doing some animation on my sig. Will be working on it tonight. The sig size restriction has stimulated my creative side.

Max Temp under load? What made the improvement? Yeah my sig is too busy right now. Animating it will enable me to display more stuff without crowding it.

This is at 4.1 I reverted back to my older overclock that is stable.

With HT off or on? You seem to say that it was on but we can't figure out why the huge drop in temp if it is still on.

I am assuming it is because he found a stable OC at 4.1ghz that has lower power requirements than what he was using to get at 4.2

V1ral you said what RAM you have, but not how much of it you have. 12GB by chance?
Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.
