Open LinX and click the settings tab, check the Auto- save log box. Then you can go in later on to see how many passes it made. Your temps will hardly go up at all if you just tried one more tick on your v-core.You are getting closer and closer.

I read this thread looking for some other's experiences overclocking 920's and have seen it grow and grow as days go by. Now I check back to see if you've made it, like waiting for the next episode of a tv show . Good luck and keep at it, sooo close!

v1ral Update: I didn't pass 20 passes of linx.. My pc restarted.. with no error or bsod.. and I wasn't here to observe the outcome of this failed attempt... Any more suggestions..? Did you increase VDIMM as I suggested? Up to 1.67V in BIOS? If you did then there's one more avenue to try with that RAM, and I'll discuss that after you answer the above question, which is somewhat important...;-) If you didn't, go ahead and do that and try again-- see what happens...if you get errors which one did Windows give you, and/or if you didn't what happened to the PC...did it just quit and no message, quit and freeze the desktop/OS? etc etc...you get it? Need to know exactly what happens, so you need to be watching unfortunately. This o'clocking business can be unendingly boring at times, you know? Hah! The important thing is that you are sticking with it, and that's good! Eventually we'll get to the formula that works with that template, after all it works for me, witha slight modification or two for my equipment difference, and AIR Only cooling, which means I can do something different in the VDIMM and VCore adjustment--that you can also do with H20. This is, at least, getting closer to your goal and eventually we'll get the one that works, nail it on the head and BAM! Done deal...and then you will be satisfied enough to want to go for 201 QPI and 4210Mhz, at least that is what should happen. Do you still want my help in a chat or not? I am free enough tonight to work on it a little with you. And what VCore are you running, and what is the speed, still @ 196-197 QPI or did you increase it yet? In other words are you still working on the "base speed" or have you increased it? I get confused as to what you are actually doing at times, so pls repeat if already disclosed. This is almost as exciting as the new laptop that arrives in the AM here tomorrow for moi! Yup, I got the newest Asus 17.3" full HD 1920 x 1080P 120Hz LED LCD display gaming (ROG, Republic of Gamers) notebook, with get this, 3D native nVidia GTX-460M 1.5GB DDR5 Video VRAM, and the machine will do 3D out of the box with its nVidia glasses (one pair in the Asus box with the laptop), along with a cool gaming mouse Razer high-end job, and a Targus backpack that actually works and fits the lappy!). That is what I'll be taking the morning and waiting for here at home, and I cannot hardly stand waiting for it to arrive. I have a couple 3D items to throw at it 1st thing, and I want to see how it up-converts normal video (Avatar and Green Hornet) movies to 3D, which is supposed to be a treat with this notebook...isn't that KUHL, native 3D? Sorry for the diversion! But I am jazzed over this new Sandy-Bridge Intel Core i7 2630M mobile PC CPU-equipped laptop! A LOT too+ it's a big investment, at close to $2 G's!...costs $1939 with free shipping for my account at Amazon.com--Amazon PRIME it is called. This is just too cool and I am on pins and needles tonight about it...crazy!! That's my life, full of surprises...by the way I am in SoCalifornia, which is PST time. rexrzer77

Okay man. I figure something out today while messaging Drey, I did in fact been raising my vdimm.. That is why I pm'd you in the first place rex, but didn't bother to ask the question.. How high can I go with with vdimm. Anyways, I've actually notice while I raised vdimm when I click "all" memory and all my gadgets and back ground programs turn "off" like it should be *which I have been doing minus the gadget part* I turned off gadgets off for now.. as long as I get to 25k problem size which is tied I guess to Vdimm when I raised it to 1.67 I checked again and it stayed there.. I was like.. eh... lets try this... not only I could lower VTT and vcore but yeah you guessed it lowered temps slightly. while passing 20 passes of linx. I've noticed I can get lower temps and pass 20 passes with linx I've gotten my temps down to 83 with my 197 base clock with lower voltages as well.. However another question arroused was, Which other volotages to I lower next QPI pll or IOH vcore.. the one that starts off at 1.3 volts. Quick Template: vcore 1.2875 VTT +125 Vdimm 1.67 tried higher but wasn't sure how high I can go I was thinking 1.7 volts, I stopped at 1.68 while trying the same formula at 201 base clock a.k.a 4.2 which froze or errored after 30 minutes IOH Vcore 1.3 QPI PLL 1.3 Everything is set as per rex's suggestion. The funny thing is.. I've grown accustomed to the high temps and when I went to 83~84 I was suprised, and I assure all of you that I did 20 passes of linx. *197 qpi base clock Now the big question is this. What is the highest Vdimm voltage that I can go. I know it has to be .5 volts of VTT So I'll adjust accordingly. Also how do I go about on lowering IOH Vcore and QPI PLL. I'll get cracking again when I get off, I work in an hour and a half.

The biggest thing to remember is, only make ONE setting change at a time. Don't go in and re-set two or three settings and try it again. If you are only getting a freeze, or error, you are very close on your settings. Plus, you must remember that you will never be putting 100% stress on all cores during "everyday" usage of your P.C.,so the high temps you are seeing while running LinX will never show up in real world computing.

@v1ral, Recently I PMd Corsair_Mike about Corsair CM3X2G1866C7GT, he said this: "Off the top of my head, IIRC, 7-7-7-24 and it should be OK up to 2.0v." The point is, 2.0V is probably the max, and I would really think 1.85 is OK, even though your mem is different. So there is no reason to be hesitant about going to 1.75. @rexzrzer: I notice a flaw in your thinking/strategy. He may have the same CPU and batch, and same mem as you do, but he has a different mobo so you cannot assume the exact same settings that work for you will work for him. Mobo Vregs vary in exact output. Many are up to 0.05V off. In my case, my DIMM V was almost 0.05 lower than what I set. I confirmed this with a Fluke mod 83 DMM (rated at less than 0.1% accuracy, +1 digit of a 4-digit display). Compared to v1ral's, his mobo could be off that far the other way, meaning he would have to have a setting that varied 0.1V from mine to get the same actual voltage output. In this scenario rexrzer, v1ral's setting of 1.57 would equal your setting of 1.67V. What I am getting at here is you might be a bit more effective if you allow a little more room for adjustments like this. It may even be why you needed "a little "jolt" of VDIMM" to be stable, your mobo was like mine in respect to VDIMM output; it doesn't mean his is like that too. Did you measure your VDIMM output with a good accurate DMM? @everybody: All I'm saying is, v1ral needs to experiment a little with all his V adjustments, his may vary, especially +/- 0.1V from everybody else's recommendation. Please let him do that without getting on his case about it. It is all about the test results, it's only what works that matters. That is all.

They start at about $150 and vary a lot. If you want help deciding which one you want to buy, just ask. Newark Electronics: Fluke digital multimeters handheld Grainger (industrial supply): Fluke digital multimeters handheld Mfgr's site for browsing without prices: Fluke digital multimeters There's a multimeter selection tool there. Without knowing your level of electronics knowledge, and exactly what you might use it for (other than this), I figure you would want a 115, about $160. +shipping Newark Electronics: Fluke 115 loveha v1ral lol.. how much much are those voltameters Not much for a decent one that you can pick up at your local ACE hardware store. $20 maybe, I can't remember how much I picked mine up for. The cheaper brands do not have accuracy specifications, because they can be way off, like 5-10% sometimes. If you are lucky, you might get one that is within 2%, but how would you know for sure? It's kinda like your mobo sensors, they are cheap and therefore can be way off. So if you checked it with a cheap multimeter, have you accomplished anything more than reading the mobo sensors? Not really. It's like having a second doctor's opinion, it makes the diagnosis more likely to be correct (if they agree), but there can still be a similar error on both doctor's opionons.

IOH has little or nothing to do with your CPU OC. It is merely the voltage that your NB runs at, i.e. your PCIe lanes to your gfx cards. Therefore, you may get better gfx performance by tweaking IOH, but it has no effect on LinX and your CPU OC. Shansmi has recommended (in his OC guide) you set it to 1.2V for more than one gfx card, otherwise it is OK default. One guy said he needed to goose his to about 1.3 for optimum gfx performance, but since he did not measure W/DMM we don't know if it was just his mobo. So why do you ask?

On my OC, gflops tanked when I lowered QPI PLL at >4GHz speeds. Now maybe if you raised CPU Vcore, but that would make your temps too high, same dilemma I had.
