Problem description:

About once, maybe twice a day when using my computer it will suddenly reset. No warning, no bluescreen nothing. It doesn't seem to happen while browsing (or at least, not yet) but it has happened both when streaming video and playing games. Sometimes I can play for hours, a couple times its happened within 15 minutes of each other.  To be clear, there is no error message at all (and I have tried turning off the automatic restart function to get one, still nothing)

Attempted fixes:

I've tried updating all my drivers, I've flashed/updated my Bios to its latest version, I've purchased a brand new battery backup surge protector. I ran Whocrashed, and there doesn't seem to be any crash reports filed. A full AVG scan found nothing as well. I've ran several heat monitor apps, and even under a heavy load my highest cpu tempt is 59c and my high gpu temp is 67.  Memtest86 found no errors.

Recent changes:

My entire Rig is brand new except for one slightly older SSD. The only recent change was paying a store to install a water cooler and clean up the wiring.

Operating system:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I also have a 500g SSD which make and model escapes me, but I believe that it is a samsung as well.

I run two monitors as well

Some googling around has shown me that others have had the exact same issue with my card, is my only option an RMA?

Usually, issues such as these are caused by the power supply. They can be caused by the video card, but in most cases replacing the power supply resolves the issue.

If possible, you may want to test with another power supply, or test the card in another system.

You can try BlueScreenView and in Advanced Settings redirect it to LiveKernelReports in the Windows Folder: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

Take a look at this forum post:  http://forums.evga.com/Go...uestions-m2383292.aspx
Question 4 he asked is similar to yours and I want you to take a look at your event logs, and if there is nothing coming up seconds before the restart then its probably your PSU.

I had the exact same power supply and had the same problem with my 980 TI. It would instantly reset at 95%+ GPU load. I plugged in a modular GPU 2x8-pin connector to a different port on the PSU and my problem was solved.

I did end up replacing the PSU for a 850W G2 because I was getting awful coil whine, however.

I took a look through my event logs, and I can't find anything that happens right before the unexpected shutdown error.  I did find the following error though which seems to happen at the exact same time.

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&daba3ff&2.

I'm going to try a full clean wipe and then install of my drivers to see if that helps.  Failing that, I have an old 630 watt PSU I can plug into this Rig to test it out.  I'll report back, thanks again folks.

If it happened after the restart then it probably doesn't really matter.  Its probably an error that happened when Windows was loading, which doesnt have anything to do with the issue.

But if it happened before then it may of caused the issue, or maybe it was coincidence. I would try to get the crash to occur again and see if you get the same results before reinstalling everything.

Well I ended doing a full wipe of my drivers (and then installed the latest ones again) just in case.  I'd noticed that I was getting an error related to my onboard intel drivers as well, so I wiped those just in case as I heard they can cause conflicts occasionally.  I also tried plugging my gpu power cable into the other port on my PSU like twilightmace suggested.

So far, no issues have cropped up.  It might just be me being lucky, or maybe a play session hasn't lasted long enough but knock on wood.

I agree. It usually is. Try a different PSU.

    I hope this isn't a thread necro.

Anyways, I went out and bought a brand new PSU.  Slotted it in, everything seems to be working okay and then it happened again.

The only thing I can think of it being at his point is my GPU, right?

I don't think its a wiring thing (house wise) as I'm currently plugged into a battery backup surge protector but anything is possible I suppose

Do you still have errors in event viewer leading up to the crash?

So my last unexpected shutdown was at 8/29/2015 at 2:48:03.  It was a critical error, then at  2:48:04 I have another warning error.  Also, at 2:48:07 I have the following (Warning!) error log 6008 event.  Logs included below.

As far as errors prior to the event, nothing exists prior to the reboot.  All I see are events that occur after a reboot.

The errors that happen after don't matter really. It's semi normal to see errors during a boot (windows loads and all). But if there's nothing in the seconds prior to the shutdown then it's likely a hardware related issue.

I'm currently connected to the outlet itself, but my UPS is also 6 days old so I dunno if its that.  In any case, I can't trigger these errors on demand so I'll have to wait and see if that's the culprit.  (to be clear, this error happened before I got the UPS.  I though my power was getting interrupted.)

I've also swapped in some old RAM of mine, some googling around has suggested that for others that have had this (or a similar issue) their RAM was at fault.

If you think it could be ram, do 2 runs of memtest86.

It turned out it wasn't the ram, two sets (one being brand new) did not solve the issue.  Process of elimination is pretty much telling me that its the card at his point, so I just did an RMA.

Popped my old 660ti in for the wait and so far it seems to be working just fine.

Currently encountering the same issues when playing games like Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Mad Max.

Other games like Farcry 3, Hearthstone, and Fallout 3 seem to be having no issues with hours of play. New PSU arrives this afternoon, hopefully this addresses the issue. CPU stress tests are fine, GPU stress tests are crashing my box. So it's either a voltage issue or a GPU issue. I'm hoping the new PSU fixes the problem. Fingers crossed, will update after the part gets replaced. (sometime this weekend)

Maybe it was the new power supply, maybe it was uninstalling Nvidia Experience, but no problems with Mad Max last night. Fingers crossed that it'll stay that way during my marathon playing on Monday. Just hope this doesn't happen when Fallout 4 launches.
