How to get rid of red led light from SoundBlaster Z----Liquid E-Tape $6

I hate the fact that my SoundBlaster-Z has the red light that you cannot control. It is ok when I want to light my rig up with Red, but not any other colors.
 

 

 

 

 
Bend the lights back a little. 

 Apply Liquid Tape

 5 coats of Liquid Tape..one more should do it

6 coats of Liquid Tape. No more light!! :) very happy

    I gotta say, that looks like a REALLY trivial LED to unsolder and replace.
     
    Have you thought about going down that path?  Swapping it out with a white/yellow/etc LED?

    An other trick to shut down a LED : if wires are accessible, just short circuit them. This is the case here. A thin copper wire without insulation, wrapped around the pins. No risk, as the LED is fed through a polarization resistor that limits the current. Current will just grow by a few milliamps. (resistor is generally external, and rarely built in ; but it exists. Naturally, never short circuit a led with built in resistor !!!)

    why make it simple when it can be complicated ????

    I am not an electrician yet... :). This seemed to be the easiest way to me. Next time I will try your way.

    Does the liquid tape come in other colors?  Maybe it can be used to change the color to green or blue.
