Well since it has been a while I posted my system and many also asked me how I really built it and came to the idea by running Dual EVGA GTX 295 RE's well here it is then

First off, I went for the CPU's which were these:

2x AMD OpteronDP 2380 C2 Shanghai Quad Cores Boxed:

The Motherboard I use is like I mentioned before the Supermicro H8DAE-2 it has the NForce 3600 Professional + MCP 55 Pro & I/O55.

Here's the rear view:

And here it's I/O panel:

As for the ram it's 4x 4GB PC2-6400 ECC Reg Kingston Value Ram, 16 Gigs of Glory:

The case I chose was the Lian Li PC-A7010 Black, it fit any type of PCB format possible including full size PCB cards like a Voodoo5 6000, HD 2900 XTX prototype or even a GeForce 7900 GX2 and it fits Extended ATX server motherboards.

As you can see, this case has all the room you need for sucha build and it also comes with a HDD Hotswap bay also known as a Backplane, it has room storage of 7 SATA HDD's max.

So when I got everything in I used my Pine XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 XXX Edition PCI-E 1024MB GDDR3 as main VGA to test ride this SMP monster with 1 of the 6 500GB RE3 24/7 series HDD's just to test run it for a few months, here I was checking if everything would fit:

And it did, no sweats there.

The 9800 GX2 ran just fine, but I also found out my motherboard has 2x PCIE 2.0 x16 with full 32 Lane SLI support, so when GTX 295 arrived this became alot more interesting, 9800 GX2 proved enough.

I never seen the 9800 GX2 perform so well, so I knew this system could be fed by the bigger and faster GPU the GT200b, which was used with the GTX 295 VGA cards, this is where the EVGA GTX 295 RE's came to place

The IPMI 2.0 card which sits above the top GTX 295 RE, looks like this:

Top view

Rear view:

The IPMI 2.0 card registrates every rpm, temperature from every sensor the board can get to:

So after the IPMI 2.0 card, I bought the other five 500GB RE3 24/7 series WD HDD's and my first EVGA GTX 295 RE:

Here it is in the system with all 6 HDD's and the IPMI 2.0 card installed:

And this was a major leap from the single HDD & 9800 GX2 setup, the system roared for more GPU power, so since I loved the GTX 295 Red Edition idea and also saw SLi Zone user SENJU's Dual GTX 295 RE program Red Sun, I seeked for a second one and this took a good 5 months until johnksss from EVGA had me a Golden Sample! which was this card:

So with that second card added,,the red monsters were reunited for a Quad SLI setup in this build, here they are; the EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Red Editions

And this is the finnishing touch to it all:

Them EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Red Editions are probably the best geForce cards I have ever experienced, they just plough through everything, flawlessly.

Really it was really worth the build and I will gladly take EVGA VGA cards again They just come to their great quality standards.

This build took me a while, but in the end, it really came to it's purposes when it comes to 3d rendering. real time simulations to DivX converting

And this is what it runed out to be I even gave it a name, thx to the Blue and white lighting that did give me some idea for it's name

Dual AMD OpteronDP 2380 C2 Shanghai [8x 2500Mhz , 8x 512KB L2, 2x 6MB L3]
4x 4GB DDR2-800 ECC Reg CL6 Kingston in Quad Channel DDR2-800 [Dual Channel DDR2-800 per CPU]
Supermicro H8DAE-2 NForce 3600 Pro, MCP 55 Pro & IO55
Supermicro IPMI 2.0 card
EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Red Edition PCI-E 1792MB 896Bit GDDR3 Rev.A2 1509 [In Practical 2x 896MB 448Bit GDDR3]
EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Red Edition PCI-E 1792MB 896Bit GDDR3 Rev.A1 1509 [In Practical 2x 896MB 448Bit GDDR3]
Samsung 3,5" FDD drive
Plextor PX-820A Dual layer DVD Re-Writer
6x Western Digital Caviar 500GB RE3 24/7 series SATAII 300 HDD's in Raid 0 [yeah I know, suicide mode rofl ]
Antec Quattro Series 1000Watt EPS12V + 24V x2
Lain Li- PC-A7010 Black
Lian Li- W75P side panel with window and 120mil fan vent.

Here the specs I got from CPU-Z of the CPU's

And this was interesting as well each GPU has a different bios, okay them GTX 295 RE's have each two PCB's but that each PCB has a different bios, this is kinda odd right?

Ah well it was one of them once in a lifetime I must be crazy projects and yes it was alot of fun creating, configuring and building it wasa great challenge as well, I know I have posted a few times but I never got to the point how it really came to the state it is in now, therefore this long post hehe.

Wow that's a nice build. How much did the whole thing cost all together?

And is that IPMI card only for monitoring the status of the pc?

Well this whole thing created a crater in my bank account for almost a year, but if it wasn't for that 3dfx collection I sold this would not of been thinkable, the entire project cost me a good 5500 euro's that is the entire thing with the 24" monitor. keyboard, mouse, Mobo and to the smallest detail.

As for the 3dfx collection, I made a good proffit, bought 17 cards for 2000 euro's, engineering samples inclided and sold it for 4250 euro's though it wasn't enough to complete this project but it was enough to get her rolling

That was with the Pine XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 XXX Edition and that single HDD. about 5 months from this I slowly added the rest, the other 5 HDD's the first GTX 295 RE, the IPMI 2.0 card and then the second GTX 295 RE which I bought from johnksss from this humble place

Anyways it runs everything so far even games like Dragon Age, Crysis Warhead, C&C 3 series, RA3 series Modern Warfare 2 these things are peanuts for it.

Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition + SP2 in DX10 mode or Ship Simulator 2008 Professional, then the system really starts to shine.

The IPMI card measures temps, RPMs of all parts that are green in this chart:

it's advantage is that it has it's own operating system so it runs individually from the system, it's connected to my switch which is connected to my main router and with the IPMI I can monitr the system worldwide via my laptop.

You must giove it an IP though to make use of this handy feature and give it a very strct password so no outsiders can enter it.
with IPMI you can also perform reboots, turning off the system and also starting it up again without the need to push the power button of the system it's self.

IPMI is used widely in the server / workstation world but I think it can come in handy for overclockers as well since it shows everything there is to know from a computer's mainframe and it's status, you can see the IPMI as a real time hardware monitoring system.

Yeah well if you need help finding them I bought mine from gigaserver.nl a shop that is speicalized in such hardware :) it's located in Leiden, The Netherlands:

    http://www.gigaserver.nl

    they ship worldwide also.

but since Supermicro is an American brand I am quite sure you can find it in your regeon as well
here more info about Supermicro's IPMI cards:
    http://www.supermicro.nl/...essories/addon/SIM.cfm

Do keep in mind that your motherboard will need a special IPMI slot to use one of these cards, they have their own type of connector, which looks like a 180 dagree oriontated PCI-E x16.

    PCI-E x16:

oh yeah , the 3dfx clubs were like falling appartand I had some bad time sthere so I decided to sell mycollection and do something useful with the money, build a system that will last a few years, here's the 3dfx collection I had, well it's a part of it:
    http://www.3dfx.ch/galler...s_goldleader/album204/

I had numerous 3dfx collections, for this computer I used money from the second and 3rd collection, kinda combined things really.
Now I still collect VGA cards including a few 3dfx ones, but I also have the flavor is collecting numerous types of VGA's from different brands , thus not only 3dfx but from S3, Matrox, ATi and NVIDIA and others if there are any interesting ones out there why not, here's my gallery for now:

Wow you have some really nice cards. I have an ATI Rage Firy MAXX too. I've even tested it on a recent machine and it works with no problems. I have a few cards myself, but not as many as you have.

I guess the only thing I have that could be considered 'valuable' is a few Razer Copperhead mice "First Edition's".

I wish I had one of the 6000's though.

Re:How my system came to life during it's 8 month build time. 56K warning! 2010/01/27 02:39:31 (permalink)
well the Previous collection from 3dfx, ATi and NVIDIA have been sold to be honestr, that is why I stated them as Previous collections :)

The recent ones are the collections named without the Previous word before them, but yeah the V6K was a beast playing with it wooped the performance of a Geforce 3 Ti 200 all round sometimes it even beat a GeForce3 Classic in some certain games and levelled with Radeon 8500 speeds, this was of the improved drivers from AmigaMerlin, version 3.1 R11, these drivers just rocked.

The size of the Voodoo5 6000 is the same as that of the  GeForce 7900 GX2:

    It's just massive

The ATi Radeon HD 2900 XTX is also this massive size, here compared to a production model of the HD 2900 XT 512MB GDDR3:

This is one of the latest HD 2900 XTX Prototypes, this model has 1024MB 512Bit GDDR4, core/mem speed of 750Mhz / 2020Mhz DDR.

The thing is I don't have these cards anymore I sold them during a depression I had this was before the sale I did for my system, I should of never sold these cards heh, but nothing can't change that now I still have that 7900 GX2 but still I will get a 6000 one day , by creating this website togeather with a good friend of mine I have all the contacts in the world, so if I want a card Iknow where to get it:
    http://www.voodoo3dfx.com...e002c52e6a520adbaa676a

That is handy when you know all the people that have one
    Here's my main work:
    http://www.voodoo3dfx.com...6k/viewtopic.php?t=225

I made them lists, they show all the people world wide that have a Voodoo5 6000 or more, this world list is the most up to date source we have, I also posted the know hows of these rare cards and a Vodooo5 5000 owners list, as being the 5000 is the low budget Voodoo5 and it's like a small ancestor of the Voodoo5 5500 and 6000, in my 3dfx days I had 3 of these ultra rares.

    Thanks
Yeah she flies man hehe, here a pic of Ship Simulator 2008 @ 1920 x 1200 x32 SLI AA x64Q + AF x16 max ingame settings + Super Sampling:

Here I was gliding out , there for no rpm on the engines unless it's a bug :haha:

It runs so smooth now even with 64 x FSAA enabled these GT200b's with the rest of this setup is just one massive render monster.

as for Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition + SP2 & Real Enviroment Xtreme 1.2 in DX10 I get this with SLI FSAA x32 + Supersampling & AF x16:

heh I could go on rofl :D
All 960 Cuda cores and 8 CPU cores are used at max with these simulations, FSX is the most heaviest with REX 1.2 added, about 12.8GB of my 16GB ram buffer is used when doing such work.

The system really comes to it's profession with such applications.

Man you have one baaaaadddddd setup!!! Much respect to you. I would love to have something like that. I am trying to slowly build something similar - an AMD Quad FX setup - using dual Athlon 64 FX-74s (3GHZ dual core) - I can't afford a dual quad core setup yet. I will be using a Thermaltake Armor Extreme case, Thermaltake Big Water kit, probably a Zalman 1000 watt PS, 2 GeForce 9800GX2 in Quad SLI, and 8GB of Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 1066, and either a MSIK9ND Speedster-WA6, Supermicro H8DAI-2-O, or Supermicro H8DAE-2 motherboard - not sure yet - guess budget will determine. Not sure of hard drives yet - thinking of going with 2 to 4 1TB SATA drives in RAID. It will probably take me a lifetime to do it - unless I can sell my 3 GeForce 7900 GTX-Duo cards. Anyway - just wanted to give props where it's well deserved. Awesome job on your system. You make all of us jealous!!! lol

Hi all have not been around in some time but the system has been running for 1 year and 4 months stable since I built it and yeah no lockups nothing it ploughs through any game you can possible mention, know it's really showing it's advantages no upgradd needed in quite some time.

So I did some maintenece today isnce I built it 1 year and 4 months ago, the most important placed were cleaned the CPU fans and heatsinks, other case fans and filters all cleaned the GTX 295 RE's a swell and after this 1hour and 20 minute cleanup, the boot temp was 19C - 20C instead of 26 - 27 C, quite a difference to what cleaning can do.

so here some new pics, eevrything looks like new again:

The GTX 295 RE's all shining in their glorious red paint:

Lights on, Engines 01 and 02 fully powered up!

    And here the entire setup:

GTX 295 RE Quad SLI, my tribute to the Master of All Voodoo, the Voodoo5 6000.
This system is also my tribute to Master of all GeForce --> GeForce Master "ChrisRay", he had Dual GTX 295's as well, even so, it's my ChrisRay tribute system, also cleaned it up to make it shine like Chris did for us all.

Here a final shot of it

Re:How my system came to life during it's 8 month build time. 56K warning! 2010/12/28 15:54:38 (permalink)
Anyways here's the upgrade for Blue-Leader, which I gave him them Dual GTX 480's which were once in my i7 930 D0 aka Firefox

Them GTX 480's used to be in my i7 930 D0, but this Dual Opteron they come much more to their advantages, FSX + REX 2.1 HD is now a great possibillity, Just Cause2 runs even better on these than with the GTX 295 RE's I had before them, so yeah this was a worthy step ahead.

That Switch was a gift for my birthday from the 34 year old Computerclub I used to go to for the past 16 years , we had our last even on December 04, 2010, so yeah they gave me that for my biorthday, I also received our old Deticated Server an Intel Pentium !!!/E 600Mhz xD there might be a lot of old pics on that one, so I'll see what on it later this week.

Here's closup of that lovely 26 ported switch, 24 x 100MBit/10MBit and on the rear it has 2x 1000MBit as ports 25 and 26

OvisLink Ether FSH24G Gigabit Ethernet Switch, also the specs of the system it's self with the new VGA cards added:

That thing gives me memories every time I look at it, we needed to buy another 12 ported one because all the clubmembers were packed on this one rofl

thank you for the Blue Ribbon my friends :)

Well this week I have something bigger up my sleeves..

The Tyr X2000B + W-X2000B Side panel and a Supermicro H8DG6-F will be just the beginning of my new pride.

Here more info on the mobo I bought:
    http://www.supermicro.com...100/SR56x0/H8DG6-F.cfm

here sme pics of the H8DGi-F the one without the SAS2 600 controller:

For the trest the mobo is identical to the one I bought, only mine hasthis as extra:
Integrated LSI 2008 SAS2 controller 8 x 6Gbps SAS/SATA ports Optional: AOC-SAS2-RAID5-KEY RAID5 Support Which will be usefull to Raid 0 a few 240GB OCZ Vertex2 or 3 SSD's Anyways I want to go vertigo with this one, this system will be prbably my biggest project ever, but also one of the utmost exciting ones too.

    Layout will be like this:
    Firefox SMP 2011

    2x AMD 12 Core Opteron 6174 HE Mangy Cours @ 24x 2200Mhz, 24x 512KB L2 en 2x 12288KB L3
Supermicro H8DG6-F Dual G34 Based Motherboard
8x 4096MB PC3-10600 Kingston Value Ram ECC Reg.
2x Geforce GTX 480 to try the SLI Hack, otherwise just the EVGA GTX 480 and wait tiil the GTX 680 arrives and use the 480 as deticated PhysX.
    Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 PCI-E 64MB Sound Card
Lian Li Tyr PC-X2000B + W-X2000B Side window
    2x 30cm Green CCFL's from Sharkoon
    2x 30cm White CCFL's from Sharkoon
1x Silverstone Strider 1500 Watt PSU to keep the power flowing

So yesterday I also bought one of these Lian Li Tyr PC-X2000B's
    http://www.lian-li.com.tw/v2/en/prod...s_index=61&g=f

I bought it @ Highflow Computers in Rotterdam
    http://www.highflow.nl/index.php?tar...tions&no_page=

That was the page I found it, it's sold out atm, seemed like I snatched the last unit
It's layout is perfect for my 2CPU G34 system's needs

The mobo seen in the Case isn't my H8DG6-F, just some example on how the layout looks like.

This Side Panel I allready have will also be applied to it once I placed in the Mobo, which is this one:

Lian Li W-X2000B Windowed Side Panel

It might take me a good 8 to 12 months to collect  and build, as being I am 100% disabled, the most importnat thing is, that I have the most hard to find parts. mobo ,case aand side window to make my new 24 Core SMP system a reality, so even if it will take me some time , I just want it to be perfected during completion , like the Dual OpteronDP 2380 C2 became as well.

I will keep this up todate in anew thread once it starts taking shape, the CPUs's I plan to use are a pair of 12 Core OpteronMP 6174 HE Mangy Cours CPU's and 8x 4GB PC3-10600 ECC Reg  Kingston memory to start with and add another 8x 4GB  of the same ram as last upgrade.

This system will replace my i7 950 D0 which I plan to sell on ebay, it's just way too underpowered for what i seek from it.

I plan to conver Blu-Ray HD film format to DivX for my you tube channel, FSX + REX .21 HD which has suppot for up to 32 CPU cores + all the X-Plane and Ultimater terrain addons, then you ahve the entire world in 3D High Deffiniton, this asks a tremendous amount of CPU power to fully run it woht issues, and yeah on the other side I always liked Supermicro's insane motherboard designs and their service.

EVGA is still my VGA vendor of choice, sry for the Zotac, that was just one I picked off ebay for a steal, but yes the EVGA does look nicer hehe, I hope to see some nice GTX 680 designs from your team EVGA, that is one thing for sure.

here some lovely pics of the two GTX 480's, but mainly the EVGA one

Well after packing him out, I took some nice detailed shot of the EVGA GTX 480 and Zotac GTX 480, the EVGA does look nicer, either way both are monsters in SLI none the less

    Thanks HeThing

Here the system at work on how I was converting a 1.66GB raw AVI file to a HD AVI file with DivX Plus Convertor 8 Professional x64

And this is the result after uploading took like 7 hours rofl

Almost 100% CPU usage, although I was able to play MP3's and surf the net without issues too!

    Whaaa Zaaaaaaaa

And this is the result after uploading took like 7 hours rofl

Which means --> it took me 7 hours to upload ... my upload speed isn't all too great, just 100KB per sec.
So likewise, what you think was totally incorrect.

It only took a good 3 hours to convert, also do keep in mind that this dual quad core system is over 2 years and 7 months old   As where your system is about 1 month old or not even?

So then again I have 8 real cores @ 2.51 Ghz as where you have 4 real cores @ 5.1Ghz, diff is that in heav SMP apps performance might be the same or my setup would simply beat yours

As games go? Meh peanuts, that is only simplified data rofl, when running Real Time Flight & Ship Simulations this system really shines and comes forward same as compiling and converting self made HD films, my Dual G34 system will get two 16 Core CPU;s the Xeon X5600 series will be obsolete compared to it's capabilities.

Your 5.1 Ghz CPU is great for games but it won't cope as well as my Opterons in professional apps where SMP and stabillity is a major case., Overclocking is irrelevant and would have little impact anyways. an unstable system is an OC'ed one, @ 2CPU.com this is an obvious discussion rofl, it does not get you anywhere more cores per node will do you lots more than just a few Ghz per Node.

An OC'ed Desktop CPU will most likely BSOD under extremely high payloads, as where Server class CPU's will just cruise on, I prefer more cores over a few threads and a few more Ghz. Stability, Reliability, Lifespan and Crash-Free Hardware is my main importance.

I have been using Opterons since 2004 and so far they have never BSOD'ed or crashed on me once, as for anew build?
A Dual AMD Opteron shall most likely be my choice, it's that I don't need a more expensive & similar performing Dual Intel Xeon based setup for my tasks.

    haha , i misunderstood you :P.. sorry :)..

as for the cpu, i know overclocking can lead to it beeing unstable.. :).. and ofcause you have more converting power in your CPU's than i have in my CPU ;)..

i have never been a AMD fan :).. they always seem to perform worse than their intel counterparts! :)

    heh no worries man

That only goes for the desktop market that Intel has the upper hand, however that will change once their new Bulldozer FX series arrive, they already have a world record in their hands with the world's highest OC with LN2 @ 8.49Ghz .. stable
    http://www.amd.com/us/pre...worlds-2011sept13.aspx

The AMD FX CPU, set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2011, achieved a top speed of 8.429 GHz, surpassing the previous record of 8.308 GHz. The record was set on Aug. 31, 2011, in Austin, Texas, by “Team AMD FX,” a group comprised of elite overclocking specialists working alongside top AMD technologists, who will also be named in the Guinness World Records.

As Opterons g this is where AMD has a head lead over Intel, the world's fastest Supercomputers use Opteron CPUs due to the much lower TDP's and better Performance per watt and performance per Node, that being that each CPU has 16 Cores, in SMP land real cores always do more than fake cores do, where HT leads to. Hyper Threading is not practical it's nice to see Intel systems with 8 threads but it's embarrassing that they only have 4 real cores. If I'd want 8 threads I'd take a real 8 core or dual 4 core setup instead ;)

But hey we all have our differences this way , I just love this place due to all the great case modding idea's the Mods Rigs section is my favorite section, so many cool stuff, everyone is creative here

@ 2CPU.com we don't care if someone fans Intel or AMD or both, it's just that; as long you are satisfied on what you have, then everything should be okay right
