If I bought a evga 1070 gtx how fast could I step up to a 1080 gtx with evga step up program? What would be the price difference I would have to pay to step up?

It would be around $200 depending on which you are upgrading to and which you had.  After you summit the step up it depends how fast they can get the 1080.  To give you an example I step up from my 970 to a 1070. It took me around 5 days to get everything done and as of right now my 970 its on its way, once they get it it would take 1-3 business days for them to send out my new 1070 and it depends if you want to pay extra for 2nd day shipping or just regular shipping. So overall for me atleast to get a 1070 FE its going to take me around 13 days - 15 days to get everything (going with regular ground shipping my card, to having 2nd day shipping return).

So lets say for instance he purchased a 1070 FE, could he step up to a GTX 1080 FTW? If I read it correctly one could since its an upgrade (model + memory).

    No.
They would upgrade him to the reference 1080. He will get zero FTW/Classified/SC. Just a straight standard Nvidia stock settings card. There is no negotiating with that .

So those who purchase a 1070FTW and step up to a 1080 will get the 1080 reference ACX model.

All that info is on the step up page.  EVGA even adds links to the upgrade parts.  Just need to read a little farther on the page.

You should take into account that some don't even know how to get to there, or know it exists. When I first came to EVGA, I didn't know anything about step-up or even knew that there was a site to list that information.

I just upgraded to a 1080 SC from step up. He will have a choice but it solely depends on stock at the time. There is a list under the step up section of the program. I check it almost every day. He has the choice of what is on the list at that time. I called EVGA sales because I was thinking about waiting for a FTW or Classified and he said that he has never seen those type of cards in the program due to low stock volumes.

Good perspective.  When you put it that way it made me realize that there isn't much info leading or mentioning step up.  Just the step up page itself.

Makes me wonder why that is.  As far as I know, EVGA is the only company to offer a program like this.  I'd blast that sort of info everywhere.

Follow the steps below to calculate the price difference. You can find an example on the Step Up page under "Calculating Step-Up Costs".

    - Add line item price
    - Do not include taxes
    - Do not include shipping
    - Subtract rebates from the line item price
    - Subtract from MSRP as listed on EVGA.

These are the current 1070/1080 models available for Step Up but check back regularly as the list changes often.
