I have a laptop that I am not using and want to get rid of it but it has windows 10 on it. I don't want to reformat and buy a new operating system. Is there a way just to remove all of my info and transfer to new user?

It will work fine with a local account as above. You'll be given the option to use either one. Resetting the PC is good if you don't want your programs included also. I found it may take longer to reset the PC than to reformat.

If the laptop originally came with Windows 10, then it is very likely that your laptop is like most newer ones...the Windows 10 product key is imbedded in the bios, so no need to worry.

It came with win 7 laptop is about 5 yrs old.

At this point, I would do a reset...this way Windows 10 stays activated. Otherwise, you would probably have to do a clean install or take the machine back to Windows 7

If you decide to format, when it asks for the product key during the Windows 10 install, just enter your Windows 7 key. Because you've upgraded that computer to Windows 10 before, it won't have any problems activating again.
Despite the free upgrade ending July 29, 2016 computers will still upgrade and activate without an issue even on computers that haven't been upgraded to Windows 10 before from Windows 7 or 8.x.

That is correct as Microsoft stores the activation in the cloud.

You should also go to you Microsoft Account and see if the laptop is under devices and there is an option to remove.

Is it an SSD or Mechanical, if its a mechanical you need to run a secure erase on the drive or encrypt it then format it to make sure none of your personal data is transfered

Tried reset only for windows to get stuck in an endless loop. Ended up deleting all partitions on drive and installing a fresh new copy of win 10 64bit home created from media tool on a flash drive. I just skipped over the key part and did not set up a Microsoft account. When it asked for pc name I just put in user and did not put in a password. After it updated itself it states windows is activated and genuine. Thanks for all the help guys.
