Hi,

I want to remove the plastic shield on an old 560 GTX.  How would I go about doing this?  Other than 4 screws on the bottom side there are no other screws to remove as far as I can see.  Is there a particular method to removing the plastic shell?

Are you wanting to remove juet the plastic, or do you want to remove the entire cooler?

Both actually. My goAL I guess is to apply some fresh thermal paste. My card has been acting really bad lately. It may be on its last legs but doesn't seem that way. Not overhearing as far as I can tell.

If that doesn't work maybe I'll bake it in the oven for a bit. See if that helps. Haha.

Yeah. At the very least I'd like to remove the cover and then the heatsink fan.

It should be the 4 spring screws on the back of the card, around the gpu core

Funny thing. I removed those and the plastic cover and the fan is solidly fastened to the card. The plastic shield is no less loose or removable.

Any hints? I don't want to break this thing.

    Thanks.

The thermal material may be died hard. Be gentle removing it.

Is there any other screws on the back? If so, remove those too. My bet is the thermal material is solid as a rock right now.

You're right. I finally pried it off and the thermal paste, what was left of it, was rock hard.

No wonder my cards been refusing to boot up properly.

    Thanks for the advice.

Time for some fresh thermal paste. Let's hope that I can give this card a new lease on Life.
