Re:How To Flash Your Bios From USB - Made Easy (remade) 2013/07/03 09:50:53 (permalink)
Hi, I've recently purchased eVGA 790i Ultra from AMAZON as USED-LIKE NEW. I registered my product with parts number & S/N & all went well. I downloaded the latest BIOS version (P10) from eVGA DOWNLOAD CENTRE. Followed all the info & booted in my FLASH DRIVE. But after that it shows
THE PART NUMBER IN THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T MATCH THE PART NUMBER OF THE SYSTEM
Error. So I couldn't update. Is it because I am doing something wrong? Or My BIOS is already updated? Is there a way to check if it is updated? Please HELP!!!

Try re-naming the bios file to P10.bin and try to flash again

Did you try typing in P10.bin
it's important to type the .bin part when you rename
save to root of your usb stick (not in a folder)
the flash utility should detect the bin file straight away
maybe try the way the toot says and re-name it bios.bin or since the flash utility field defaults to bios.bin change it from that to what ever you renamed it to if you can edit the field.

Just a bit of helpalong this same topic, plz? I tried to flash from p06 to p10, and I also put in the cmd line modifiers /sn /cc /cd /wb /py....Upon reboot I got a hard drive failure (40) message, and it appears that my BIOS did not update. I flashed again and got to where I can manually choose my Win HD, but I'm not sure what I can do to fix it...If you think I should have followed advice and not tried to update my BIOS, I am beginning to agree.

Any suggestions?

I built my PC using the mobo Nvidia 790i Ultra SLI, C:\ (300Gb Raptor HHD), 3 GeForce GTX 9800 SLI (1.5Gb Card), (2) 1Tb WD HDD for Data, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor. I've been having trouble with the PC freezing. I took it to a shop and they told me the board was shot, but I didn't believe them. I worked with it for another year and last night it would not start up. It has happened before and I was able to find it needed updates on a few items and got it to work again. Today I got a Blue screen crash stating "The system BIOS in this pc is not ACPI compliant." I know this is probably true because I recognize I haven't updated it for quite a while.
But I share this with you to ask, your instruction talk about "HP USB Storage Format." Does this refer to Herlet Packer? If so, my system is not. Will this BIOS update work for my PC?

Also, has anyone ever heard of PC freezing like my does?  If so, any recommendations would be appreciated in trying to help me fix it.

Thanks.

no the hp tool is just a easy way to make a bootable flash drive (it can be any brand drive) to be able to boot from, kind of like a floppy disk of old. here is a good link for the tool http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3000-2094_4-10974082.html. you simply follow the instructions from post one and copy the .bin file, little tip, rename the bios file to bios.bin, makes it a lot easier to flash. also your board has to support booting from a flash drive. you will need to get the correct bin file from evga, it will be either dz19 for the 790i FTW or P10 for the 790i ultra, if it is the DZ19 file you need, it only comes as a exe or iso file, you will need to extract the the .bin file, i use 7zip to extract files out of iso images, the exe will give you a A drive error unless you have one, if it's the P10 bios the .bin file is there and just download that.
now for your MB, the nforce boards did not support ahci, i would replace the cmos battery (they do go dead and they are cheap) clear the cmos and update the bios. Let it boot with the defaults first time to see if every is good, dont worry about the floppy drive error if you dont have one.

I would try downloading again to a new folder. Do not extract then rename NF79P10.bin to Bios.bin then place it on the per-formatted usb drive then boot to usb  and then flash Bios.bin. GL

I solved the problem BIOS firmware through the program., Nvidia control panel --- update the BIOS firmware. now displays the BIOS version P10. BUT in the BIOS did not notice what that changes and additions, but it is not so important, I will change the system (processor and motherboard)

Have Windows 8.1 Pro on the EVGA Z170 Classified mobo.
Thinking of upgrading to BIOS v1.04.
Which is the safest method - via Windows OS or through USB Flash Drive ?
Also, are the instructions here for creating the USB Flash Drive still valid and operable ?
Many Thanks !

Always update bios any other way except in windows. From USB in Bios is the best way for most boards for now. #1 Tip: Always be sure to set optimized defaults before and after a flashing even if raid configs are present which can be reactivated after the flash. That said I'm not intimately involved with your motherboard so the question might be best asked in the thread for your board.

Seems EVGA doesn't allow me to download a .bin version of my bios.  .iso only.  Have mounted with several tools and there is nothing visible in the .iso.  DL multiple times, it has file size properties an all.  Have show hidden files and folders and it just WONT SHOW ME ANYTHING.

Hi,
My mobo is XFX 780i but I looked everywhere and this thread was the most useful.
I wanted to update my BIOS from 6.00 PG to 9.00. I followed the instructions listed here to the letter and everything seemed to be going as it should. Exactly as the photos describe. But when I checked the BIOS version in windows, it hasn't changed. I double checked with cpu-z and hwinfo64 and it's the same old version with the same old date.

What can I do now?

You can extract the disk image from the ISO file using 7-Zip, then write that image to your USB drive with BootDisk2BootStick. This gives you a USB copy that's identical to a CD burned from EVGA's supplied file, without any manual work. How to flash your EVGA BIOS via USB is basically a copy of my old forum post with all the details.
This same process should work for any similar update that uses an ISO file containing a floppy-emulation disk image.
