So im just going to ask right here, Is it worth it to use a 2gb 680 SLI setup to play games for the rest of year, or is the 4gb 680 sli just a better buy, Note just want to play games at 5760x1080 with ultra and maybe 2xaa or 4x if possible. I love the high textures for skyrim and use those alot now.

My Rig
i7-6700K @4.8Ghz, Asus Z170 Maximas VIII Hero, 32GB G.Skill Triton Z Series, Two EVA 970's in SLI, Custom EK-WB Water cooling loop, Corsair 800D Case, Corsair AX1200 PS, Corsiar Scimitar, Razor Blackwidow Keyboard, A40 Headset.

@ proctus I don't have Skyrim to test for you, wish I did as it would be a good test. I accept free copies from Steam

I'd really want to wait until multiple good Surround reviews are out on the 4GB models, but my testing shows it's impossible to get many of my games to reach that 2GB ceiling and the ones I can get to hit it which makes me believe that the ceiling can be a bottleneck, SLi doesn't seem to have the gpu power to make any higher settings playable anyway if I did have more mem.

Without those 4GB Surround reviews that I want, I personally only think TRi and Quad SLi will have the GPU power to use higher settings on games that will easily cross the 2GB ceiling. So if you game triple screen and are doing TRi or Quad, you def want the 4GB model imo. Single or SLi, the 2GB should do fine.

Side Note: I think the jury is in when it comes to a single 4GB 680 trying to run that res, you're wasting ~$80 on +2GB that your gpu will never be able to utilize.

I didnt' built a high end PC game rig just so I can make Win7 look like ugly ass Win 95. I"ll keep all my visual goodies on and take a slight FPS loss, if there is actually any to begin with.

Alan Wake is another game that no matter the settings, just does not come close to 2GB vram. At "High" settings, it only uses
1600MB in this scene compared to the 1525MB shown with Aero On. Granted a DX9 game, but many games are adding up
to not being able to use 2GB vram, or at least 2GB the way Nv has the 680s using them. Still quite a savings when turning Aero Off though.

I agree that aero should be disabled for some systems. For me personally, disabling aero and using a simple basic win7 theme solved all my gaming problems.

Asus Z170-AR
Intel i7 6700K
Corsair Vengeance 16gb 3200 mhz  (9 9 9 24)

Asus GTX 1080
Samsung 960 Pro 1TB M.2 SSD
Corsair TX850 Power
LG Blu Ray 10x RW CH10
Corsair 570x Crystal Case

Asus Rog Swift PG278Q Monitor
Windows 10 Pro x64

Can't do the screenshots with OSD for Max Payne 3 so I figure I'd just post the SP video (will post an MP vid if the VRAM usage shows a difference).

Highest IQ, but with 2xMSAA and Aero Off keeps it <1900MB. Aero On or any higher MSAA will exceed my 2GB limit and stutter like BF3 (i.e. not managing the ceiling like Crysis 2).   You can go to Youtube with it for fullscreen and 1080p.
I have to find out why my vids aren't using the correct height.
