rjohnson11 The method that I gave makes sure that the sound and 3D are never installed in the first place if that is really what you want to do. Helmutcheese gave a good method as well but I've seen some people still mess things up when attempting his method because they have problems following those directions. Whether you decide to follow Helmutcheese's method, the original poster, or my own method one of them should work for you. This thread rocks. I am not having any IRQ or freezing issues but would probably use your Winrar method if I did in the future. I only have one question regarding it. Does the fact that you are not installing 3D Vision mean 2D surround would also not work as well. Would the 2D Surround function be disabled in the nVidia control panel?

My question is if I have disabled onboard sound and using an HDMI cable for all of it, will I still run into these issues? My dog chewed my dvi cable up last weekend and that is what I had available to me at the time. I haven't had any issues so far, it even seems a bit snappier in the resolution department and the sound is a little clearer too. My only complaint is that now I am going to have to get a USB headset because my old one won't work.

dunkinkid22 helmutcheese I always stop the Nvidia installer right after it extracts to "C:\Nvidia". I then enter this folder and DELETE the Audio Driver and 3D Driver. Then I manually run then SETUP.EXE in that folder to install driver. This could cause registry errors and other complications (system32/system64 errors). but if it works for you i can't knock it. and i will give it a try for myself and test it out. It doesn't. the setup script calls for these apps and skips them if they are not present.

jeffmd Irq conflicts should be a thing of the pass. With a modern OS and computer, it is not only normal, but expected that irq's be shared. They shouldn't have any trouble doing so. I actually have a soundblaster x-fi, but decided to install the nvidia onboard drivers so I could utilise it to power an ear piece for ventrilo. That way ventrilo chat comes over the headphone jack I have and game sound and microphone are handled by the sound blaster. Works like a charm! should be, but in some cases aren't. in the cases where they aren't its usually poorly written driver/driver service.

companies need to work together more when creating drivers and they often don't. The lack of communication between entities that should be working together is astounding. If companines like Nvidia and Microsoft had better communication even if it was through a third party, we would have a world of less conflicts (hardware and software). But wish in one hand and grab mud in the other. See which one fills up first.

microsoft isn't the issue here. part of the problem is hardware itself that doesn't adhere to the PCI spec, which is aft the case with Creative APU's. nvidia gpu's generally share nicely with sata, usb, and host clock, but depends on the mainboard really. its usually best for the gfx card to have its own isolated IRQ though. however every IRQ past 15 is virtual anyway and this itself can be the cause of IRQ issues.

Nvidia GPU's and creative Soundcards always had a habit of trying to share an IRQ.

back on the agp days, this was true, these days the irq's are propery marked in mainboard manual's and the only(or lowest) pci slot should only share with onboard pci devices, of course, i mean old school pci, pci-e's trickier as the placement of the 1x/4x slots can screw up resource manipulation. my prelude shares with my usb host, but i get no audio issues from it. have to say that video drivers seem to handle virtualised IRQ steering properly most of the time so IRQ's over 16 tend to be fine. my primary slot assigns IRQ 24 with no sharing. this could be a windows 7 thing though since it supports ACPI/APIC better than vista and assigns the irq's through to >150.

Before I go tweaking my system build (tweaking for the sake of it is always a mistake) what purpose do these NVIDIA sound drivers perform? What functionality do they provide? Yes they are kernel mode drivers which can be probelmatic when poorly coded. Please note they are Windows Hardware Quality Labs certified. What specific issue are they causing?

they allow sound to pass through the hdmi port on the VGA. This can cause irq conflicts with your onboard sound card and 9 times out of 10 usually does. It leads to among other things: poor/under performance, BSOD's, System stability issues, and many other annoying things. many people have expressed issues with them and when they disabled/uninstalled them. alot of the problems they were experiencing went away

dunkinkid22 HeavyHemi dunkinkid22 they allow sound to pass through the hdmi port on the VGA. This can cause irq conflicts with your onboard sound card and 9 times out of 10 usually does. It leads to among other things: poor/under performance, BSOD's, System stability issues, and many other annoying things. many people have expressed issues with them and when they disabled/uninstalled them. alot of the problems they were experiencing went away Nonsense. The vast majority of users don't have issues. Also it's not simply a pass through. i think alot of people would beg to differ Not likely is as this isn't reported as an issue effecting a significant number anywhere. Your claim was " This can cause irq conflicts with your onboard sound card and 9 times out of 10 usually does." Certainly with such a HUGE problem that 90 percent of users are having you can back that up. Again, nonsense.
