I am having a hard time getting BIO to make it so that during the boot it will give me the option of booting from the disc in the disc drive. I have never used this new BIOS menu prompt screen before. The last time I formatted a computer myself was on my Nforce 7 and it would always ask me if I wanted to boot from the disc. Any help with this and how to format on a newer machine would be much appreciated, I have not formatted a computer in a very very long time and I have forgotten a majority of the steps and processes to go through, I do have a windows XP pro disc. And again, any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi, when you enter BIOS using the Delete key on boot, you should see a boot management config on the left side column. Go in and set your CD/DVD drive to first priority over your harddrive. Then hit F10 and save. When it starts up it should read your Windows XP drive.

Let me know if you can follow. If not, I can reboot into my BIOS and give you exact directions. :)

Thank you Blizzie. I would greatly appreciate it if you were willing to do that with the exact directions. If not, I think I know what you're saying and I'll go into BIOS and see if I can set it to the CD/DVD drive to first priority. Thank you again, your help and information is much appreciated.

When you hit Delete and go into BIOS, go into Boot Configuration Features.

Then, go into Boot Device Priority.

Use the + (plus) and - (minus) key on the keyboard to move your CD/DVD drive to 1st Boot Device.

Hit F10 and it should boot your CD/DVD.

Wow, that was quick. Thank you very much Blizzie, you've been a great help. I may return (knowing my lack of competency when it comes to things like this) but if I do not, thank you very much, and have a nice weekend.

    Group hugs for Blizzie!!!

Man is capable of as much atrocities as he has imagination.
People are, well, only human. We know that. The rule of law is borne out in identifying, condemning, and punishing those who violate the standards on which we all agree. This is exactly what we do in America.

Okay, I'm back Your guidance and information was GREATLY helpful, BLizzie, thank you. But one question. I always forget the best option for this choice when I format. Should I go with NTFS(Quick) or just the regular NTFS process? Is it really worth waiting the extra time (and is it really that long of a wait in comparison) for BIOS and setup to remove and check all the files in the drive and in each section for damage? or should I just go with NTFS (Quick)?

^^^ Agreed. I was going to ask how it is one can reward a person a ribbon, seeing as Blizzie only has 8, I think more is deserved.

Use the "report this post" button and write the admins that you think blizzie deserves a blue ribbon.

As to your (quick) NTFS question: when installing a new system, I always use  the (slow) NTFS option. The only time I do a quick NTFS formatting is when I want to "empty" a data hard drive.
    Nothing academic, just gut feel.

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean that people aren't out to get you!

NTFS quick does only a format. NTFS normal, does a format and scans for bad sectors on the HDD. I always do quick.

No BR needed here but thanks.
