This is probably my last question and it's if it's really neccesary to run 3 things one every night for 3 nights and why I can't just run all 3 things one after the other in the same day? I was just wondering what would happen.

Of course you can. I'm just thinking you would rather be using the computer during the daytime, except for those periods you are taking care of your life. It just kind of sux when you suddenly want to get on the Internet for something, or play a game, but can't bc you are in the middle of an 8hr run of P95 or LinX. It's entirely up to you. When I say scheduling things like that, take it with a grain of salt, it's just a recommendation.

I use Arctic Silver 5, you see it in my sig below ("AS5"). It is not the very best benchmark-wise but the better stuff is either too expensive, can't find it, or too thick and hard to work with. And the difference is only like about one degree at full OC - not worth the trouble. AS5 is also easily removed when you change or rework your cooler, it doesn't require any special removal solvent if you have some rubbing alcohol that works fine. I just bought my second syringe of it a month ago - I used way too much the first couple of times or I would not have needed to buy another.

Now that I have discussed this, I need to tell you about application methods. DO NOT use the credit-card spread method it causes trapped air. Use the tiny pea or rice in the middle method, it's easier and works better. There is no need to cover the entire CPU surface with the stuff, the CPU die is just a small area in the middle, only the middle half counts. More copy-and-paste from my earlier posts:

Thermal transfer (TIM) compounds

Read this to see TIM performance differences, look at the A+ section on pg13 for the best:

BenchmarkReviews.com: 80-way Thermal Interface Material Performance Test

Vids on TIM application:

YouTube: How Thermal Compound Spreads

(And I recommend looking at some of those others too.)

"Also go to www.innovationcooling.com and check out their application page it has great instructions for the correct application." - Falcon_CMH

Example of bad credit-card TIM spread:
HOLY 920 EGG COOKING TEMPS BATMAN!

IC Diamond application instructions with discussion about air bubbles:
IC Diamond application instructions

TIM removal:
Remove all of your TIM first. Do it very carefully, and remove the heatsink carefully as a bit of it could fall into your CPU socket ('strings' of it). It really depends on what TIM you use as to how to remove. With AS5 you can use 70% rubbing alcohol like this:

Wipe off the excess first using cotton balls or Q-tips. Wipe toward the center of the CPU to avoid wiping it into your socket. Wipe the edges very carefully if there is excess hanging over. Then clean the excess off of the heatsink. Then pour a little alcohol into the cap, and dab the cotton ball into it, you only want several drops in the ball, you don't want the ball soaked. Wipe the ball over the CPU with the same action directed for removing the excess, be careful not to squeeze alcohol into your socket (it won't hurt it if you let it evaporate, providing you don't get TIM in there). When it looks clean you are done.

Let it evaporate before applying TIM. There are commercial TIM cleaners out there, you may need it for the thicker stuff like Ceramique. Good luck.

Oh ok thanks for that info.
Can you reexplain this step for me?
6. Click start and watch the max core temps on RealTemp. Stop LinX if they get over 90*C. Watch Vreg temp, again stop if it gets over 90*C.

Do you mean to look at the 2 temperatures where it says 'Maximum' on the bottom on the Intel section on the Real Temp GT? Also the VREG Part how would I Stop that one I don't understand that part.

7. If it passes without stopping on error, nor BSOD, nor lockup, then you are good, note the peak temps
Do you mean by stopping on error as if I were to stop it if it reaches over 90 or just a different error?
And what would BSOD and lockup mean like how would I know if those 2 happened?

I mean these temps:

There should be 6 of them for your CPU just like the picture! And also don't let the Vreg temp in E-Leet or CPU-Z stay over 90.

Steph1

And if nothing has reached 90 yet do I just leave it on and will it stop by itself?

Yes, after the number of passes you have set in LinX it will stop, typically around 1 hr for 5 passes at 36K PS for your CPU with no OC. But with P95 you must always stop it manually, go to "Test" --> "Stop" and make sure "stop all workers" is checked before you click the button.

Steph1

And what would BSOD and lockup mean like how would I know if those 2 happened?

LinX will just stop and report "stopped on error" (always at the end of a 'pass') like this:

Pay no attention to those Voltage settings in E-Leet. FYI I was using 25K PS bc only had 6GB installed at the time. If it passes, LinX will look something more like this:

Steph1

And what would BSOD and lockup mean like how would I know if those 2 happened?

Your computer would just freeze and become non-responsive. That's called a lockup. The only way to get out of it is turn off the power or hit the reset button (if you have one connected). BSOD is when you get a screen that is all deep blue with white writing and it tells you about the specific technical error that occurred, and near the bottom there will be a number like this:
IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x000000000000001a
This would be BSOD code 1a. Often it also gives a driver name like "atiffxx.dll" somewhere on the screen. When BSOD happens you are no longer in Windows, and the only way to exit is same as when you have a lockup above - but wait until the OS finishes it's "dump" to the HDD or you could corrupt the integrity of your HDD (hard drive). You will see that message at the bottom, when it says dump is 100% complete, then you can press reset or power down.

That brings me to the next issue. You should go into Windows and disable automatic restart on error so you can read that BSOD. Go to Control Panel --> System --> Advanced system settings --> Startup and recovery and under the "System failure" portion uncheck "Automatically restart."

Ah ok thanks.
If I have to manually stop the LinX test because either the 6 numbers or the VREG gets to 90 or over, does that mean that I should then back the multi back down to a lower point?

Should I also back the multi down to a lower point if the LinX test comes across an error?

Yes and yes. But then report your results here and we can then discuss what you should do next.

Seventh LinX: [Multiplier at 32 X] Failed (BlueScreen Error)
I couldn't find that button on the Control Panel to not restart when I ran two Seventh LinX tests one after the other and both ended up restarting the Computer by itself during both Seventh LinX tests and then when the computer restarted, I logged in both times, and a Windows thing popped up saying the reason why it restarted and it said Blue Screen.
This is what that windows thing that popped said:

Problem signature:

What I am really wondering is why did I receive this error if all my stats are way below 90C for the other 6 LinX tests. I do not understand that. I reverted back to 31 X from 32 X just now just to let you know btw.

Update: I found the option to tell the computer to not restart. I'm going to run the Seventh Linx on 32 X again and this time i'll post the information when the BlueScreen happens again so that I can show you the info. But I have to go to sleep right now so tomarrow i'll do it.

Yeah don't bother with that. Often that info doesn't give the BSOD code but that time it did: 1E.

Let me preface this by saying don't put a much emphasis on BSOD codes as you can get just about any BSOD code from lack of CPU Vcore in your OC. 124 is said to mean "Vcore or VTT" but many ppl just say "that means VTT" and that is fallacy. It actually means first try adding Vcore then if that doesn't work try adding VTT. Your 1E means Vcore is insufficient for that speed. You need to add CPU Vcore until you are stable at 32. I'm actually pretty shocked that you reached 31 without your temps getting too high, that's 4.39GHz (with Turbo), that's awesome on the stock cooler!  Congrats!

Explanation of GHz calculation:
Your "CPU base freq" is 133. You  achieved a 31 multiplier:
133 * 31 = 4123 that's 4.12GHz without Turbo.
Turbo on the 990x adds two to the multiplier (on core 0), 31 + 2 = 33.
133 * 33 = 4389 = 4.39GHz
You are already over what I could do with my 920 and my excellent air-type cooler (Megahalems)(my 920 has the multiplier limited to 20+1, that's the main difference between our CPUs - other than 6 cores as opposed to 4).
The stock multi was 26, so you have already OCd 19% over stock speed. You might reach 27%  with luck.

Now a word of warning: When you start raising your Vcore your core temps and Vreg temp will increase too. And there is certain areas (different on each chip) where those temperatures raise sharply. However, you are not likely to be able to raise your Vcore far enough to reach those temp skyrocket zones with your cooler (but I said that about your OC too and it surprised me, so I am telling you about it).

So here's the new modified routine for you: Raise CPU Vcore, try the aforementioned higher multi. If you are not too close to the max temp, then go about 0.025V steps. When you get close to the max temp, you need to take smaller steps, like 0.0125V or so (my board is different, you may have different steps than I do, mine has 0.00625V steps). Try each step until it works, then advance the multi again - if possible. IDK what the max is, you may be close to it.

Congrats on your OC so far, you are now eligible for the X58 Stability Club 4.2Ghz+!
X58 Stability Club 4.2Ghz+ Can you make it?

(Wait until you finalize your OC before attempting to register, and read the OP carefully for the rules and requirements.)
You might be the first there with the stock CPU cooler.
You've already beat a guy with a 990x who's water cooled (WC)(rbh5081)!

Srry I wasn't around for awhile. Are you letting it continue, 'cause it could be just the EVGA "double-pump." You aren't turning the PSU off when it does that, are you? It might boot a few seconds later if you let it.

Otherwise:
With the power on and computer off, press and hold CMOS reset (on the IO shield in the back, or the other button on the board) for 20 seconds. Then try to boot again, but you will have to set all the BIOS stuff again from scratch. This is why we enable "OC recovery." Also, this is why we use BIOS profiles, save it then when this happens you just have to set some things and use the profile to set the memory settings and CPU settings including Voltages. It does not save the boot order, so you still have to set that. GL.

I never shutted down with the power switch or button. I always powered up with the computer restart or shut down options on the start menu. And I tryed what you told me to do with the 20 seconds thing and it still powers on for 1-2 seconds with all the lights turning on and off.

HPET Mode ( 32-bit mode )
change this to 64 bit mode if you haven't Nice OC by the way.  Hope you get it all straighten out.
Halloween knows his stuff :)

Make sure VT is disabled that causes the double pump unless you are using it turn it off. its under CPU options.

You have to leave it plugged in while reseting CMOS.   if pressing the button doesnt work open up the case down at the bottom of your board is another reset CMOS button and a power button press the reset CMOS button hold it for about 10 seconds then release  it.  then hit the power button on your case.  If that doesnt work removed the Lithium battery from the motherboard for 10 minutes.  then replace the battery put all your hardware back on that you took off to get to it.  and fire it up.  If that doesnt work I would call up Evga tech support though they probably are closed today but tomorrow call them up there is a second BIOS chip on the classified3s ive never used it so im not sure how it works but you can actually reflash your original BIOS if they get corrupted.

You say all the lights came on but it doesnt POST meaning you dont see your BIOS screen?  theres a LED on the bottom of your board right side there should be a number there.  If its not POSTing and theres a number thats your Error code open the motherboards manual to POST codes it will tell you whats wrong or atleast a general idea. Then we can work from there to find a resolution for you.

It's just the LED Lights, the fan lights, and motherboard lights that turns on for 1 to 2 seconds and even the fan turns on for 1 to 2 seconds then everything turns off. And yes the Monitor doesn't show anything within those 1 to 2 seconds. So basically when I click on the Power button on the Computer Case, the computer turns on for 1 second then it turns off.

Crushed he is saying his fans and lights go back out, i.e. the mobo power goes back off.

Steph1, first as long as you have told me everything and was straight with me, you have not done anything to warrant this problem. Please don't feel that you did something wrong. However, OCing does stress the hardware more than typical use. I really think if you had a hardware failure it was inevitable anyway, OCing may have just caused it to happen a little sooner.

Second, try removing the CMOS battery for 20 minutes or more, then replace it, then do the CMOS reset button routine again (with power supplied), and try that. If it doesn't work, you need to try something more extreme (copy-and-pasted from previous post):

First, make sure there were no unused mobo standoffs behind your mobo. By that I mean no standoffs where there are not screw holes. They will short it out and could create any variety of problems.

Second, you need to do the standard "bare bones" boot test:
Remove mobo put on cardboard, disconnect everything except CPU, one stick of RAM, one GPU card, CPU fan, keyboard, 8-pin, and 24 pin power connector. Use this diagram provided by KMoore4318 to install your single RAM stick:

Use slot 1 in the diagram, reseat that stick too. Disconnect everything else from your PSU too. Don't even plug in the HDD. Use the onboard power button to try that, see how that works. As soon as you can get into the BIOS disable "P80 Show temp," you need to be sure your error code is really a boot code, not just CPU temp. It's under "Integrated Peripherals" --> "Onboard device." If the boot works, to something like "no boot disk," try attaching your HDD, mouse, and the rest of your RAM.

Ah i assumed it was just booting up and doing nothing.  That sounds like a power supply problem to me if its turning on then off. But then again it could be a hardware issue too.  Test it one item at a time like halloween said.

I opened up the Case and I did the paper clip test on the power supply 4 times and it failed all 3. Do you think it's the power supply?

Well, not the PROPER thing to do. But I would go to Best Buy or whatever store near you. Purchase one, try it out, you can just place it on top of your case and only use the connectors needed(cpu power, 24 pin motherboard, video, etc.) If it stiil won't solve your problem, return it. I had the same symtoms you are having now, on then instant off, and a power supply cured it.

Agreed, but go for a good brand like Antec or Corsair. GL.

Ok so I bought a new Corsair AX1200 Power Supply and now the computer turns on again. I also resetted my bios to original form. HalloweenWeed what should I do next and how shall we continue the 'quick and simple OC with just the core speed multiplier' thing now?

Have you re-done all your BIOS OC settings to were you were bfr? Do that, then my

above.

Right now everything is on standard Bios settings. Also the thing says 26 X. Do I have to go through all the tests again and that memtest or do I go straight back to 31 X?

Well first you have to verify all your BIOS settings are just like your

then set 31x. Then do my Post #40. No need to re-test if nothing has changed except your PSU.

Ok everything is the same as post 17. And it is now at 31 X. Also, should the HPET Support be 32-bit mode or 64. And just to let you know while I was waiting for the new power supply to come I managed to clean out all of the Artic Silver paste from the CPU and did the pea sized in the middle.
