Great night of testing.....
CPU O/C'ing Test Results
4.6 @ 1.300 = Crash
4.6 @ 1.345 = Pass (temp 68)
4.7 @ 1.345 = Crash
4.7 @ 1.375 = Pass (temp 72)
4.8 @ 1.375 = Crash
4.8 @ 1.400 = Pass (temp 74)
Since my temp was just under the suggested threshold of 75 I decided to stop there. Seeing that 4.8 was stable with a VCore of 1.400 I decided to run a 3DMark with stock GPU clock speeds and a slightly o/c'd GPU clock. Here are the results:
4.8 @ 1.400 (stock clock of 1700) =
P7495 4.8 @ 1.400 (o/c'd to 1725) =
P7589 Conclusion from tonight's testing:
After pushing more and more o/c on the CPU is seems that only minimal increases happened past 4.5ghz. At 4.5 I was able to score a 7483 and at 4.8 I was able to score a 7495 without touching the GPUs. This means I only gained a total of 12pts by increasing the CPU .3ghz while also incresing my temps by about 10 degrees. At this point I was curious to see what results I would get with a small o/c on the GPU and I was pleasantly surprised at the results. By only adding 25 to the factory clock settings (1700) I was able to increase my score to 7589 which means a 94pt increase. Pretty impressive for a small o/c! Based on the data I have thus far collected, my conclusion would be that adding the extra o/c and temp increase isn't worth it past 4.5ghz on my particular system. It is to my belief that it is quite possible that the increased temps could be slowing down the CPU, but this is just a guess. This leads me to my next set of tests, GPU o/c'ing.
Seeing that my GPU o/c's show better gains I'm going to start back at 4.5 and try to achieve similar results by increasing the GPU o/c. I will use the same process as before but this time focusing solely on GPU tweaking.
Everything else aside, I'm freaking stoked that I was able to surpass my goal and get into the top 7% of comparable systems. Considering I am not using a complete water cooling system and only a Kuhler 920 for my CPU I think the tests went relatively well. I'm sure if I had a better watercooling kit I'd be able to push more from the CPU but at this point in time, I'm more than happy with my setup.
Stay tuned....GPU testing coming soon!!!!!
