Yeah, their customer support is great but they can only ship what is on their shelves. The don't manufacture, refurbish or manufacture the products themselves. Maybe they are having some kind of labor dispute and this is how the workers are getting even and showing them who is the boss. I don't know what they're complaining about. Just last year those 11 and 12 year old kids in Southeast Asia got a whole dollar per day raise and a half hour break during their 12 hour work shift. Talk about a bunch of ingrates! What now? They want to Unionize too?

Who knows whats up with this, but that shouldn't be mine, yours or anyone else concern.

It is an internal EVGA concern and it doesn't look like it is a top priority for them from where I'm sitting.

I have seen more than once, long standing generational companies (50-70 years of great business)  and big corporations that have suffered to unrecoverable state and  ultimately closures.
After seen so many things that you would never imagine could turn certain way, not much would surprise me
I know its drastic thinking, but those things seems possible

Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Maybe EVGA wants to be remembered in the same fashion as Nero?

Yap, good1

I smell smoke. Maybe we'll all get some good deals when EVGA has what is known as a 'Fire Sale'.

fire sale

noun
noun: fire sale; plural noun: fire sales; noun: firesale; plural noun: firesales
  • a sale of goods remaining after the destruction of commercial premises by fire.

    • a sale of goods or assets at a very low price, typically when the seller is facing bankruptcy.

That's just EVGA trying to make friends and influence people. I see they all learned from the same playbook. Coming soon to a store near you available in paperback version.

Expected delivery date for the cards is Monday.
Been in contact with Dominik from EVGA and he's been very helpful.
Out of Asus or MSI, who would you recommend for performance on par or better than a 980ti kingpin..?

I believe that ASUS has the bragging rights to that. Higher OC out of the box and recently broke the record previously held by Vince 'whatever his name is' Kingpin himself.

Re: Having to RMA 2 780Ti Kingpins, Sad day indeed :-( 2016/01/21 05:58:22 (permalink)
ASUS 980Ti MATRIX P GOLD keep one more very important record much harder to someone brake.
Highest Fabric Overclocked Premium Graphic Card EVER made.
That card is good enough and I can see that I made mistake, I was thought what to upgrade X99 or TITAN X.
OK I didn't make mistake because X99 I would not miss that platform, only I would first resolve GM200 story, but I didn't know that ASUS will launch so overclocked card. For Matrix Gold I'm sorry same as before for GTX580 Ultra Classified, on same way I wished and K|NGP|N but that was mistake.

Because all problem with EVGA K|NGP|N and card ready to RMA, unable to sell, unable to play games, wait to card 100% show instability in EVGA lab and in such situation I didn't want to pay them TITAN X SC, instead of that I invest something less for X99 platform but I could bought TITAN X... From some nice K|NGP|N card as I expect to arrive after EVGA marketing and hype I could pull 450 euro and with my 1100 euro I would pay i7-5820K because I didn't want to miss CPU for same price as i5-6600K and rest I would bought TITAN X SC and install on my Z77 platform.
That was before 9 months... In mean time I had more than enough time to pay X99 Micro 2 and 32GB GSkill for 220 euro.
And everything would be different... Now my comp would be full of EVGA hardware with plans what to do EVGA Hybrid system or EKWB Predator...
But that didn't happen, and after I bought Rampage 5 Extreme I still didn't gave up from EVGA. I was still thought I will stay for graphic cards, power supplies, mouse, now maybe and their AIO System even I didn't completely exclude and EVGA motherboards in future, but I make final decision after RMA.

Only Matrix Gold, cost same or less than K|NGP|N but PCB and VRM are not inferior and silicon is better than in K|NGP|N.
Matrix and Strix are same speed as K|NGP|N but probably K|NGP|N have something better VRM than Strix.

If you want something slower, with 1216MHz Base Clock (same as K|NGP|N) but cost 710 - 720$ than normal version Matrix Platinum.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126046

Amazon sell for 710$ and probably is best place for buying ASUS hardware.
    10 left in stock.

I'm same angry now because everything what happen to me as before few months and I will be angry and for few years when I remember that.
Not only because I didn't bought ASUS TITAN Black when distributor offer me to sell me when card show up for similar price as 780Ti K|NGP|N...
That was my mistake in choice, only mine because my loyalty to EVGA and because I believe that they make something special...
Only 50% of people get something special... I didn't even from second time. They gave me open card, they could choose some of better overclocked because they know what they send... But that was to much good for me, I didn't deserve that after so much losing nerves.
EVGA mistake is because they was so tricky to optimize card to crash sometimes but not constantly in first moment and because of that I lose chance to repeat everything same as with GTX780 Classified, when I sold that card and pay 250 euro extra for GTX780Ti K|NGP|N...
I could done same and selling 780Ti and upgrade to TITAN X, or at least to pay 300-350 euro plus money from 780Ti for GTX980Ti reference before Pascal show up... But I couldn't sell card, I wait to problem become 100% easy to replicate and to EVGA replace.

Let me put it simple terms:
These cards are definitely going back.

I'm just quickly firing up an email to EVGA, I'll update the post properly in a bit.
I've attached a couple of images, really couldn't be bothered to take more. Too tired.

The Flux you are seeing is normal. That is not water damage. Test the cards before you send them back. It isn't pretty but it also isn't harmful.

The residue can be removed. I used a toothbrush with soft bristles and electronics cleaner, if you want to give that a try after testing the cards.

That looks like flux remover residue. It happens now and then but they could have put a little bit more pride in their workmanship. I agree that it does look awful and should have been cleaned better. I would install them and make sure that they work before going through all of the hassle of shipping them back again. I've seen worse.

I've had my previous Kingpins for a while and I've never seen those on them but obviously that alone wouldn't have made me return them.
The cards are definitely refurbished cards and though that wouldn't really bother me but I know they'll likely also bring whatever problems they had with their previous owners with them.  I have tested the cards each one separately and on both cards if I launch a game, any game, within 2-3mins, my temps shoot to about 85-90C and fan speed and loudness as well shoots up in an effort to keep the gpu cool that the fans for one of the gpu starts to rattle, literally within that interval. I had to quickly quit the game and also rather quickly the temps drop back down really low. So I know the heatsink is definitely doing it's job. It was when I decided to look under the hood and I took of the backplate that I saw heat marks. I just couldn't be bothered anymore, I took some pics, made a video of how loud it gets due to the temps and I put the backplates back on. I really was hoping for something that works out of the box.

Let me ask you, are this the same you have submitted to RMA, if yes was the white residue there?

These are the ones that I just received today. The cards I sent didn't have the residue, I know that for a fact and the pictures to prove it. I don't think these are flux remover residue, they look more like heat warping.

Definitely talk to EVGA about it then. I can understand your frustration with this.
