It seems to me that 5960X almost mandates a dedicated loop...don't bother screwing around with some AIO.
I'm very much eyeing that 5930K, personally. Though I'll wait for the next iteration of DDR4.

where did you find this information about the 5960X?

The fact that in the Tom Logan review, it seems the real bottleneck was the ability to keep the temps down and that's why the overclock couldn't go higher.
I believe he uses an H100i.

ah I thought you meant at stock speeds. I imagine OC'ing a 8 core processor will need a lot of cooling.

I'm glad that's something I don't have to think about.
Be right as rain plunking in a 5930K with one or two of the Nvidia 900-series (they're apparently skipping the 800 name) and I'll keep that setup for 5 years.

The lower clock speeds for all three cpu along with 6-8 cores are awesome for everything but gaming. The marketing for X99 as being for "Extreme Gaming" is brilliant but not true. All reviews seem to show that the 40 lanes w/ pcie 3.0 @ x16/x16 shows little to no improvement over a 4790k @ x8/x8. DC is still top dog. We'll maybe see big improvements when Skylake releases? The ddr 4 ram speeds are craptastic with the high CAS.

Gamers stay away from X99?
