Hi all,

I recently bought a GTX 970 from ASUS and it had horrible coil whine so i RMA'd it and got my money back. I'm talking about coil whine like card. As you can hear, that gets pretty unbearable after a short period of time.
Now, i'm looking for a replacement and I read around the web that EVGA had addressed this issue on their production lines by replacing the bad chokes that caused the coil whine?

From EVGA:
We have been watching the early feedback on GTX 970 and inductor noise very closely, and have actively taken steps to improve this. We urge anyone who has this type of concern to contact our support so we can address it directly.

I would like to know if anybody can confirm this so I don't by a coil whine infested card again. Is it worth the risk?

Thanks,
TarikM

I called about it and they walked me through the RMA.... I didn't really call for the RMA but they clearly wanted me to once I did. I noticed my new 970SC is a lot nicer (80% better).

That sounds promising, can you tell me what model number it is? I heard that some have coil whine more that other models.

    2974-KR

Maybe it was just my old card that would loud under stress. This new card makes some but with the case cover on, it's a lot harder to notice. It's still there for me but it is a lot better.

hmm, that model is actually the one that is not available in my country. They all seem to be "sold out" and a new model "3975-KR" is used instead. Seems kinda odd, but maybe the 3975-KR is the new model where they "fixed" the problem.

Well, if you buy it and it has an issue than you may be able to RMA it for one that doesn't have an issue or ask for a refund.

Yeah that seems like the best bet. Nothing to lose really since they all accept without question anyway.

I just bought two 970 SSC's (3975) a few weeks ago.  I don't hear any coil whine with these.  If there actually is any coil whine, my case fans must be louder...

I really hate noise. I have my fans set at 500 rpm which makes my HDD's louder lol. The slightest noise annoy me to bits. Looks like I will be getting the 04G-P4-3975-KR and hope that I don't have to RMA this one lol

You need noise canceling head phones and you won't hear anything like that.
