so i ended up switching my graphics card out of my system with my mates a GTX 660 (i know big step down)! however it ruled out my graphics card being faulty as it eventually randomly reset the system. so suggests its a faulty power supply

My trouble now is i cannot turn my computer back on with either graphics card installed, all the lights go on in the system, but nothing comes up on the screen, i put my mates original graphics card back into his system and it booted up fine, also i tried it with my one and it worked fine apart from it wanted to start i either safe mode or start windows normally (that black start up screen).

I have no clue whats going on apart from on my system has the drivers for the GTX 660. now it doesnt boot up only the lights and fans and stuff spin!!!

Did you use a different monitor connection with your mates 660? Check selected input on monitor

MB - Clear CMOS -- BIOS to default mode

Make sure GPU is indeed fully seated

You did remove the power cord from the PSU before swapping GPUs ?  MB has power when "off" and MB can be damaged by swapping GPU and other parts while MB is hot (powered)

+1

Yes; but, should it not even boot now - that is the problem at hand.

PSU was determined to be root cause as swapping GPU did not help

everything is plugged in how it was before, it wont even go onto the boot screen now, the screen stays black and says no signal, even though it is all plugged in

The cmos can be cleared two ways...

#1 Using the onboard jumper...

#2 Remove motherboard battery. Wait 5 minutes. Place battery back into motherboard.
