this project is on hold until the unlocked xeons come out (though if i have the cash ill be grabbing the SR-X) intel has followed this pattern before, release the basic chips with very few options but still stepping up a grade from the last gen, then drop more features in. its called the 'tick-tock' model and its common knowledge this is how they do things. the panic about the SR-X not being useful is only by shortsighted people. i am looking at $1200 in medical bills and moving a state over so i have to suspend the project but ill be back probably start of next year or end of this one.

This seems like it will be an AWESOME build once it is finished. And I sure hope you get your medical bills and your moving situation sorta out for the best. I know how bad medical bills can hurt. I have over 50k in medical bills that I would have owed but thank god I was eligible for Palm beach Health Care District insurance which took care of my past, present, and future medical bills.

Re:HAF932 TSWdragon 2012/05/11 23:24:53 (permalink)
i finished the case, wiring, changed out the switch to be able to kill all the lights in the case at once, and only have the side panel left to do. i ordered the SR-X and i should have it by tuesday. here are some pictures:

you can see the pump recess, the hard drive mounting setup and the way i mounted the DVD drive form this angle. all 8 fans are fed through a power block i made myself (yay new soldering gun!) and all the lights and fan LEDs go through another custom made block. all the wiring will be fed over top of the pumps (no way around that) and a lot of the wires will be out in the open as a sort of decoration of its own.

from here you can see the paint style, the lights switch and the LED bar.

here is the back, custom acrylic back panel made by GoneCruising, push pull setup on the 140mm rad, and thats about it
let me know what you think, im hoping to pick up sponsors, maybe get my build on some magazines if all goes well (quit my lousy job at a call center 3 days ago so money is short, i dont even have processors to run when i do get the SR-X)

so i got my hands on an SR-X, here it is in all its glory, and you can see how tight ive had to fit it into this case. blue wires are the speed sensors from the pumps.

next picture:

these are all the wires required to power the board plus 2 video cards. the next few weeks will be spent shortening all the wires to length and running wires behind the motherboard tray.
I have everything but the processors. for more on that situation see this thread:

just bought an EVGA GTX 690 (still your beating heart, poor pocketbook) and it is on its way to Nate (who already has my SR-X) for a retrofit with matching waterblocks.
here is a picture of the chains that keep the side panel from falling open when i need to get inside:

it also shows where ive positioned the LED strip that will illuminate the motherboard/GPU.

Re:HAF932 TSWdragon 2012/07/24 16:24:14 (permalink)
So the first person I tried to buy a 690 from ripped me off, gave me fake tracking info and ran me around in circles for a month. i got a refund from paypal and just bought it from EVGA, got it two business days later, as promised.
My girlfriend decided not to wake me up when it got here.
She tossed it in bed with me and when i woke up i of course tore it open like a rabid animal. massive box, first off.

after shoveling through goodies and a tshirt (XL of course) I got to the actual video card.

almost a foot long, weighs almost a pound on its own, and is so shiney i was afraid to touch it.

Got it installed and up and running (power supply is probably begging for mercy) but my precious secret world game wouldnt run! I installed the beta drivers and it seems to be working much better now.

Running this game on ultra settings is quite satisfying.
It is, after all, the game i am building this computer for, and styling it for the dragons.
In game I am SilverDragon, and playing on Cerberus.

Next ill be sending this GPU along with 32GB of RAM and an i7 to nate for testing and waterblock design.

So the video card and motherboard are with Nate, I am looking at having to re size all the wires and want an opinion, do you all think that I should cut the wires and solder them together or should I buy new connectors, a crimper, and shorten them by reducing the length on the end?
