Well, My cas 8-8-8-24 Dominators run like a top @7-7-7-24. I was surprized.

I don't suggest using LinX for Gulftown at this moment. Do you notice that the speed of the CPU is just too slow? 59GFLOPs is just the speed for a 920 running at around 4.2GHz.

Try 6 or 8 threads, then you will see the muscle of the 980X.

ello again what is the max range then for your CPU VTT voltages got mine down from 1.64 to 1.55 on a 4.01GHz oc is it still to high should I try and get it lower?

I would not go above 1.65 Vdimm and 1.45 VTT.

1.2v should be stock Vtt voltage for your board, so 1.2+200= 1.4v so you should be good.

Knightviper..... you may wish to raise V-core a bit and then you may be able to lower Vtt a bit and have no stability issues.

Gulftown 6-Core BIOS Template thread 2010/05/12 14:06:14 (permalink)
Swapped out my 950, placed my 980X, and 3 run rock-stable @ 4Ghz
LinX 20 passes, Prime95 overnight.
VCore could be lower, Vtt etc also, but stable for now.
Temps @50-54 load.(Idle 20-24)
(Carat7 needs some curing time , so will be lower

Now it`s up to fine-tuning, but for the moment going to a Lan-party.

Anyone played with the Beta S664 from Shamino? Is it any good?

From Beta64 to official 64.
No differences so far. Stability is good.

Re:64 - Gulftown 6-Core BIOS Template thread 2010/05/24 22:16:34 (permalink)
Ok, so the only I adjusted was the following:

CPU Vcore - 1.25v
CPU VTT - 1.32v
Dimm Voltage - 1.60v (It's reporting 1.66v)
Vdroop disabled

Everything else is on auto/defaults and I can do 31x multi and 133Mhz for 4.123Mhz.  I am still working on stability as it is somewhat stable, but not quite solid.  I think I will have to push vcore up to 1.27v to get it stable.  Not bad since I only spent about a half hour on it and most of that was waiting for it to save and boot.  I seem to have a pretty low "VID" being that at 3.2Ghz (24x133) only requires 1.12v vcore and that ran all day crunching WCG at 100% load.  Really like this chip, seems to be cooler than my golden batch 920.

Only question I have is why is default VTT set for 1.45v?  Seems high.

I found that default vtt+200 too.

I also found that I can run my vtt all the way down to +100 w/the same timings and pass the 20Linx 20passes. If I set it to run 75 times.  Linx produces errors and I Hard lock or BSOD asking for more VTT.  I've found that even under stock clocks at 1600mhz ram I bsod w/+175vtt at test 45 or pass 45 in linx.  The VTT of +175 and lower will pass PRIME95 all night but will not pass LINX if under +200vtt set @75 passes.

Since then I've run my Linx @ 100 passes and have found stability @ +200vtt all the way to 1720mhz then my chip needs +225 @1866 my chip needs +250 @ 2100+ my chip needs +300vtt to pass 100 passes of linx.

Hope this helps.

Anyone else using BIOS 64 yet?  Just curious if I should flash to 59 or stay with 64.
Thanks.

Re:Gulftown 6-Core BIOS Template thread 2010/08/24 12:13:32 (permalink)
My 24/7 on air. This was tested with 20 linx passes and 12 hours of prime 95. All core temps stayed in the mid 60's with this template. I can go to 4.43 by simply raising the multiplier to 31 and vcore to 1.400, and turning vdroop off. This is also 20 pass linx stable, however, temps hovered in the mid 80's on air, so that would be the absolute maximum I would try with my chip on air. I am extremely pleased with my 24/7 template. Thanks to the pioneers of this chip for helping me get there with all of the their early data.

Re:Gulftown 6-Core BIOS Template thread 2010/08/31 23:23:59 (permalink)
Here is a formula to figure out QPI speed

QPI Frequency Selection
4.8GT - 36 x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)
5.8GT - 44 x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)
6.4GT - 48 x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)

ex: @ 6.4GT  48 x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 150 = 7.20GT
      @ 4.8GT  36 x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)  200 = 7.20GT

I have tested how far I can push bclk and at 230bclk currently using 4.8GT setting. @202bclk I found  on my board a 760 with a Q4EG ES, basiclly same as 980x.  I found that changing the setting on QPI Signal Compensation to less helped me push bclk up from there. Stuck with what Shamino said  about Gulftown likes a 1866 MCH Strap and seemed to work for me so far. Here is a little read on QPI that helped me...

well i guess it comes down to cooling as usual, i have been above that 1.4 Vcc  figure since day one many months ago, and for vantage runs well lets just say that my Vcc  goes much much higher

So have I with no problems yet.  I mainly put the chart there for a guideline. Under Notes: #2 Excessive overshoot
leaves some room for interpretation and I believe Intel puts these figures out mainly for there protection.
