The idea of small FFTs is to fit neatly into the cache registers L2/L3 and would be more stressful for the cpu with load of heat being generated. Always good to run "Blend" for an extended period,  at least a complete cycle or up to 12 hrs as I do to stress the IMC on the cpu. I've been using Prime 95 for years and it is the best overall stress test IMHO. Couple of notes:

FYI,

"You can control which FFT sizes are tested by the torture test.  In prime.txt
you can set:
   MinTortureFFT=n
   MaxTortureFFT=m
Where n and m are in "K".  The default for n and m is 8 and 1024 which will
run tests on FFT sizes rom 8K to 1024K.  Set n to 8 and m to 16 and you will
run only small FFT sizes.  These FFTs will fit in the L2 cache and may be
more stressful to the CPU
."

You can control how many minutes each FFT size is tested by the torture test.
In prime.txt set:
   TortureTime=n
The default value is 15 minutes.

"you can override the info in local.txt:
   NumCPUs=n
   CpuNumHyperthreads=1 or 2
   CpuSpeed=s
Where n is the number of physical CPUs or cores, not logical CPUs created by
hyperthreading. Choose 1 for non-hyperthreaded and 2 for hyperthreaded. Finally,
s is the speed in MHz."

Finally, from the WiKi below, some good info on FFTs for your viewing pleasure (boy how I recall this from my collegiate days ):

 expedision, Right now I'm thinking Prime Small FFT's is the best for stability testing for the 980X and then run some Prime blend. LinX 8 threads still pushes my highest temps. I am at 4.6GHz ( B batch). My temps with LinX 12 threads is about (highest core) 85c. When I set it at 8 threads, 3 cores are well over 100c.

Well i think i found a cure for the Gflops

Currantly at 135x35 for 4713.x, memory at 1616 7,7,7,19,59,1T. Happy with the VTT, I'm at +125, but I'm pushing 1.4875 vcore without droop right now which worries me--the temps are in good shape through so I guess only time will tell for all of us enthusiasts what this cpu will really handle for voltage settings and if it is really like the earlier i7s-- best wishes with your clocks-

I run mine as high as I feel temps can remain under control which also translates to voltages that aren't sky high because if the volts were that high I couldn't keep control of the temps with just good water cooling.  I'm at 4713.x with 12 threads and will test 6 cores/6 threads as soon as I get some spare time to see if the higher clock allowed by turning off HT gives me better performance in general for the stuff I do must of the time--good luck

Hey everyone, i was hoping someone could clear up this vtt issue. I notice alot of people say +150 is 1.35 or around that number. Now is this the same for each evga x58 mobo? I specifically have the 760. I have my vtt set to +150, now if i look in evga e-leet tuning under the monitoring tab it saysCPU VTT 1.42V, but if i go under the monitoring tab it says CPU VTT VOLTAGE 1.2V and then next to that it has 1.35000V currently listed. So is my motherboard set to 1.35v but its running at 1.42?

If anyone could help me understand that it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Base VTT on 760 is 1.200 so +150 is 1.350 that is correct. unless something changed in last bios but it seems the same to me.

I just took a Multimeter to my board last night because i was curious myself.
I have a classified 760 I currently run vdroop OFF
I am running a 980X
I have VTT set to +100 ELEET shows 1.35 idle and 1.4 under load (like small FFT's prime)
with the multimeter I read 1.29 at all times, even when ELEET shows 1.35-1.40
on most of the other voltages eleet shows about .01 to .02  higher then multimeter
so eleet shows for instance 1.64 vdimm when big load but my meter is showing 1.62 (and i have it set 1.65)

Also if you run WITH droop that may change things too!

Now my CPU and motherboard are not yours, so it's possible what it displays is true. or in other words.
you need to check YOUR board with a multimeter if your comfortable with it.  and if not just assume what is shows is correct.

Emmett

thank you emmett, that is very informative. I am going to go buy a multimeter tomorrow i guess. Im sorry if this is a "noob" question,  but how do you know exactly where to put the multimeter, is it labeled on the motherboard?

edit: I also have the evga 760 and 980x proc. I figure if the multimeter does in fact show 1.35 tomorrow after i buy one, then maybe theres a bug with the evga 760, since it seems to be happening to you also.

it's labled on board. the ground point, then the check points CPU,VTT,IOH. etc. on the edge of board near dimm slots.

Make sure meter is properly set, ETC.

Ive never used a multimeter before so i just wanted to double check. I have read through the manual and if im understanding correctly, i want to use the symbol that looks like a V with a solid and dotted line above it? Or am i wrong? Also, im guessing its pretty straightforward, Just touch the black to the ground spot on the motherboard and then the red to cpu vtt for the reading?

Thanks for your help

Chris

well i went ahead and tested, called my uncle which is an electrician. The max load i ever read running prime95 at +150mv was 1.35 under prime95. So im guessing its just a bug with the 760's maybe a bios bug im not sure?

I'm waiting on mine from them too. I finally received confirmation that it shipped, and I should have it on the 1st, how about you?

When did you order? I ordered on the 22nd, Monday last week and they were out. I canceled the order this past Monday now everyone's out, Newegg, ZZF at least until the 5th. I hear ProVantage may have some this week, one can only hope.

Re:Gulftown 6-Core BIOS Template thread 2010/04/06 14:20:25 (permalink)
FINALLY, got my memory to run @2000 mhz. Could never get my Perfect Storms to do it with my 980. Went out and got a Corsair Dominator Gt. kit, and bingo. Needed +250 vtt but what the heck. My CPU still needs TONS ov v-core to run stable @4.5, but the temps are VERY good. Happy camper now.   Why do my attachments look like crap when I view them here?
