Hi

i finaly finished my build with 2 gtx 1080 from evga with aquacomputer Kryographics full Cover waterblock.

What are your temps under full load?

The highest temp my 1080s had was 49 degrees with hours of full load. But it was really hot these days. the ambient temp in my room was 29 degrees.

When will these cards throttling through temp limit for the first time? I mean it was 63 degrees am i right?

My 2 1080's watercooled max out at 43, as far as thermal throttling I believe the temp is 80C. I'm not 100% sure though, my cards don't come close to that temp so I don't worry about it

What rads do you have, that is the most important information. 49°C sounds fine to me, but could be cooler with more cooling surface.
45°C is already a small throttling step. Very minor, but there are more and they exist.

I have one 360x45 rad pushing Air in
plus one 140x45mm pushing air in
one 420x45 rad pushing air out .

Should be enough radsurface so far.

All fans are Noiseblocker black Silent pro 2 pwm maxed out. Thermalpaste is prolimatech pk3.

Ok, that a lot of rads :D
I will test my 1080 tomorrow with a watercooler and give you temps to compare.
I would say 49°C is a bit high... what cooler is it? EK? Still, with 49°C you are way below any hard throttling value.

no its an aqua Computer kryographics on my sli system.

The first days it was max temp around 45 degrees but now it hits 49 after couple of hours. But like i said the room temp raised up to almost 30 degrees

I just installed my blocks today but the cards are not going back into my PC until tomorrow or Sunday. I can report back my water and gpu temps then. I have the nickel plated blocks and used Thermalgrizzly Kryonaut. Single EK CoolStream XE 480 in P/P with AP-15's. CPU in the loop is a 5960X.

I have a single 1080 with EK block and after extended gaming I hit 40 but the vast majority of the time it is 37-38 with room temps of 23-24, so a 14 degree delta. 2101MHz consistent clock; no dips at all. And thermal throttling starts at 82 so you are well below that threshold.

    Running a EVGA GTX 1080 FE @ 2126MHz core & 5500MHz memory with a EK-FC1080 GTX G1 - Acetal+Nickel combined with a 5820k@ 4.5GHz.
Cooled with a EK Predator 360 and 6 Noctua NF-F12 classic in push/pull.
With fans at 100% = 1474rpm GPU stays under 40°C.

so much for the theory that all FE's run like mud.

Its not high temp. I have a single 240 Monsta rad only and hit 60C° on my GTX 780 Hydro Copper on full OC and it runs fine.  It really depends on what the room temp is. I hit 60C° on max OC when the room temp is around 28-30C° in the summer so thats +30C° above room temp which is good. Keep in mind stock FE air cooler would probably trottle at 82C° much faster in room with around 30C°. And to keep it on perspective my CPU is hitting around 80-90C° on full load under water, with a 30-35% OC. Do I want lower temps, heck yeah, can I fit more rads in the case im currently using, no. :) Simple as that.

Agree 100%, room temp dictates a lot in temperature.

2x 1080s in room ambient of 29C and you get 49C under load... those are respectful temperatures. Once you get beyond 24-25C ambient, water temp rises quick, you are definitely in good place, don't listen to others who giving you bogus #, trust me you are good

Re: Gtx 1080 watercooled temp 2016/07/14 09:31:09 (permalink)
    Here is my setup:

GTX 1080 SC with EK block + backplate
    XSPC EX360 - 360mm rad
    XSPC AX240 - 240mm rad
8 fans on the rads in total, all running at 800 RPM constant (I like quiet).

    1080 clocked at: 2050 core, 5500 mem

Keeping in mind that my unfortunate ambient at the moment is 31°C, after hours of gaming max 1080 temp is 49°C. so 18°C Delta max.

Now for the interesting part. When i first start a heaven benchmark, my clock speed is 2050 stable @ 1.062V. Now after several minutes, somewhere around 43°C, the clock drops to 2038 @ 1.05V and stays there permanently. Even if I switch to a game etc. No matter what I change the clock speed to it will drop down one clock/voltage level when it hits approximately 43°C, So what I can infer from this is GPU boost 3.0 has some kind of slight throttling around this point. It's not power target throttling or anything like that. Further testing is needed to determine if it's actually the 43°C temperature or if it's something else like LLC or Vdroop or just inherent to the complexities of GPU boost 3.0.
