With all the hoopla of Vr headsets, oculus rift, and 3-d I was surprised that I couldn't find a single post on Google cardboard. I have watched youtube videos and read a ton of reviews and it was staggering to see the amount of praise a piece of cardboard, 2 plastic eye-pieces and a smartphone can get. I had a $20 gift card I got from a rebate and I decided to pull the trigger on a small little kit just for

I am thinking I will be able to watch my sbs 3-d movies on my htpc via Splashtop and there appears to be a ton of android games out that support this as well as looking at google maps and panorama pictures. When I got my LG G3, I didn't really understand the need for a 1440 x 2560 on a 5.5" screen but I am starting to feel that maybe that is a really good thing. I know that this is not going to compare to oculus rift or a "real" vr experience but has anyone ever tried this? Is there any support for pc games that will display a sbs image that could be streamed or hardwired to the headset/smartphone? I understand that there would be some lag for fps but maybe it would be cool?

I saw them online once and thought it was a joke but yeah they've surprisingly got a lot of positive feedback.

I had a similar thing happen with amazon when I ordered a 800w UPS. Ordered one and got sent three. I contacted support and they told me to keep the units.

Or....maybe he meant they sent him 3 Google Card boards? Naw, he was multi -post- tasking. I've almost done the same thing, especially when there is a contest or something to answer first or when you don't want the lulz to run dry and you need to jump on a reply.

Just an update, Google cardboard came and it is actually REALLY cool. It tracks head movements really well and for cardboard, it's fairly comfortable. I bought a set that is like google cardboard but they added some features. I wrote them an email with a mini review along with some criticisms and not only are they shipping me a replacement set (they also offered a full refund too) but they are sending me a new version to beta test. There is one video I found on the google play store that takes you into New York and you can look 360 degrees, in the sky, where ever. They had a portion where you are on a helicopter and when I looked down, I was actually a little intimidated by the height. I am not one that screams at jump scares on games or that reaches out on 3-d movies but this is actually kinda cool. The games they have for it are not that great but they are getting better. I used splashtop to stream some of my 3-d movies to the googles but I need to change the settings around a bit. The 3-d effect is good but it needs a little more field of view. I guess the new set they are sending has bigger lenses. For under $20 and just using a smart phone, it's pretty cool.

Now you've got me doing it too! Mine gets here Wednesday from Amazon. I'm already downloading all of the free apps from the iTunes store.

VRSE: Walking New York and Evolution of Verse are REALLY good. InMind Vr was pretty fun as well. This is the set I bought but V2 is coming soon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S7R0UIA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
$17 bucks and it comes with a head strap.

My Lg G3 fits even with a super shock case so that was a huge plus. I would recommend hot gluing or taping any of the card board sets since the tabs get weak fast. Best $20 I have spent in a long, long time!

OK, I got mine yesterday and coincidentally it is the same one shown in your video. I tried 'VisitVR' and I spent too long just spinning around to calibrate it I guess or maybe I should have read the instructions if there are any. Anyway, moving on to 'inVR' I spent some time walking around a cemetery listening to 'Thriller'. It was so real that at one time I started walking across my apartment and almost fell onto the couch, lol. I should just sit in my swivel chair to turn my head instead of standing up and spinning around. 'Rollercoaster' didn't line up properly so I guess I'd better find some instructions for that too. Anything that only costs $10 and has already kept me amused in 'shock and awe' for an hour already is definitely worth it.

I received the Version 2 which is out now. The upgraded V2 comes in a small box and literally assembles in about 2 seconds. It is a little better built and uses a different type of triggering system. The nose piece is bigger and they used bigger lenses for a larger field of vision but unfortunately, the lenses are only in focus when you look straight ahead. I left the company some feedback but they have not gotten back to me. At least they shipped me another V1 for free which was cool.
Played a few games and messed around with a few other things on it.
"The Chair" is kinda cool. It's somewhat similar to "5 Nights at Freddies" where you look around and have a light that recharges and you hear scary stuff going around you. Has a few jump scares but is kind of a 1 hit wonder.
It's also pretty cool to take your own "photo spheres" Google camera has an option where you stand in one place and take a picture all around you and just line up a little circle on the screen and it automatically stitches all of them together for later 360 degree viewing.
It's fun watching people use it and gasp looking at the floor thinking they are going to fall or as you mentioned, walking into chairs. LOL

"5 Nights at Freddy's" is $2.99 so that is out of the question for now. I had fun with it yesterday so I'll have to look around the app store and see what I can find. This was a seriously good find. Thanks for posting this, agent8.

Oh, I just mentioned 5 Nights at Freddies because of the similarities. I don't think they make a vr version of that but maybe. Yeah, I am not going to pay for anything either. "Swivel Gun VR log ride" is pretty fun too. I was messing with one called "Alien Apartment" Where you kinda snap your head forward to walk and you can interact with stuff but I wasn't quite getting it. If anyone finds some other good free VR apps, post them!

It takes a little time to stop walking when you tilt your head down and that circle lights up. Whenever I turned my head my direction would change and that's when I started walking through my apartment. OMG, I feel so stupid sometimes getting tricked by a VR app!

Just two Biconvex plastic lenses and a pizza box and you can do the same thing. Here are the lenses that most use (40mm I believe) http://www.tinydeal.com/2-x-3D-Glasses-Lens-for-DIY-Google-Cardboard-Virtual-Reality-3D-Glasses-p-135692.html?currency=USD&ship_to=US&gclid=CjwKEAjwyqOwBRDZuIO4p5SV8w0SJAAQoUSwQRrLdcXEwK_3Acdsy1BNNnxYqeL9Bu5P23l0Cbm9QBoCngvw_wcB

Most of the kits I have seen use the same basic design but some come with a head strap or offer different colors. I modded mine with hot glue and a few foam pieces.
