Sounds like a good thing.. Here is the article:
Google Trying To Reduce 4K Data Usage
4K video takes up a lot of bandwidth and Google is trying to find ways to make 4K more accessible by reducing its data usage. Ultra HD 4K still hasn't been adopted by most viewers, but YouTube and Netflix do support it. Google has been developing a better video compression codec called VP10 to deal with 4K content.
VP10 has been in the works for over a year and it will eventually replace VP9. James Bankoski, a Google product manager, says VP9 already uses half as much bandwidth as H.264 and VP10 will cut that in half again.
Not only does it reduce the bandwidth required to view 4K video, VP10 offers sharper images, superior color, a better dynamic range.
H.264 is the main video compression standard, however, and that means VP10 might not be widely adopted even when it does become available.
