Seriously in one of the strangest moves I've seen a company ever do it seems Google has now made themselves a subsidiary of their new subsidiary which is now the main company that owns Google. From what I can understand they made a subsidiary named Alphabet Inc then managed to switch them around. So I guess now we won't be saying Google it, instead Alphabet it?

Its probably for the huge tax advantages, essentially so they can grab the depreciation deductions under the asset rules. I don't know all their particulars but they may be trying to grab a exemption too. Maybe they are trying to offset the huge amounts of money they spent acquiring all the DARPA bot companys in the last year or so.

It's a play on them trying to own everything a to z. It reflects their interest in diversification that they've been doing for awhile now.
