I won't be on the forums for that week. I tried to go last year, but had a family emergency, so it was cancelled. Hopefully this one goes well. Be my first trip to Hawaii. I'm excited.      =)

Went to Kauai and the big island last year.  If you are going to the big island, do yourself a favor and visit Volcano National Park, seeing Kilauea at night is an awesome experience.  Also drove to the top of Mauna Kea, like being on the top of the world.

Sounds like a nice experience. I'll bet the souvenir gift shops sell souvenir lava rocks?      :P

If I'm able to, I may post here once from Hawaii if I'm able to. I will be doing a text to my coworkers, and probably rub it in that I'm there.

    Nice!

The Big Island and Kauai are on my list of next destinations.

On my first trip to Hawaii, I didn't even know the Hawaiin islands had a dry side and a wet side. I was surprised to find on my second trip that the dry side's climate is like Southern California's.

Be sure to stop by one of the roadside stands to get a fresh coconut. :)

I had a chance many years ago to be stationed there but as an enlisted man the high cost of living was too high to support a family so I turned it down. Hope you have a great time.

I've lived in Honolulu all my life - a little over half a century now. Weather is great at the moment. The rain (whatever may come) will have passed by the time you get here. Hope you enjoy your visit. Bring enough sunscreen. Big Island will be awesome!

You don't even know. They made it illegal to take pretty much anything, claiming it is sacred, turn around and after the security checkpoint you can buy almost all the things that are "illegal" to transport. Airports...lol

Don't touch the plants, stacks of rocks, any beads or animals. Many of these carry incredible fines and most are quite ludicrous.

I live on Oahu, for the next 7 months at least, time to re-class.

Sunscreen! You will burn fast here, 15 min in direct sun can, and will, burn you if you are of fair complexion. Traffic and parking can be a pain and you will be ticketed for illegal parking.

There are a ton of great places to eat (in downtown I can recommend Duke's, not expensive but not a huge selection and it is inside the hotel) and visit that are not on the map and you want to carry cash, not too much obviously, plenty of mom and pop side of the road stops (even garage restaurants) that can offer great food at a great price.I know a few others but only kinda where they are and not the names.

Don't pay $12+ for coconuts or pineapples. The Dole plantation is neat and not expensive but watch out for the pearl dealer, you know the old "50% off" coupon deal and suddenly you end up spending $400.

Watch out for the tourist traps, mahus, and all the homeless people (the guy with the parrots is entertaining). The water currents can be strong if you are not a great swimmer.

I can recommend a few places to visit if you want you can PM me and I will give you my number or w/e. I'm sure warriorgov knows much more than I about such things, I've only be stationed here for 2 years.

Yes I burn fairly quick, so I will definitely bring the sunscreen. Thanks for the other tips as well.

Want a scary thought? Picture 8 to 10 people at your door wearing grass skirts and EVGA T-shirts singing "Tiny Bubbles" at Midnight.

BTW........don't get too close to any sea turtles while swimming in the ocean. That's one of the NO NOs there.

I'm back. Got in late last night, then stayed up unpacking, eating, etc. Slept good today. I'll post some pics of the trip later. Loved Hawaii. Water was so clean, and clear. It's funny, it would rain lightly for like 2 minutes, then go away. Every so often it would do that. Very weird. Anyway, it was very relaxing. A lot of stress went away on that trip. I found out that I don't like turbulence on the plane. Feels like you're going to drop out of the sky or something. Was about 5 1/2 hours each way. Glad to be back with you all though.
