What "real world" performance increase should I see? Currently I get acceptable performance but the framerate can drop pretty low sometimes. And I run all the games on max settings, because I think image quality has higher priority than performance (unless the game gets unplayable). I play both new and old games. And to mention I also record videos and livestream occasionally so huge framerate drops isn't very good. Will a single 980 suit my needs for a while?

Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Intel i7 3960X 3.9 GHz
Corsair Dominator GT 2133 MHz
2x Intel 520s in RAID 0
1000W Seasonic Platinum
Windows 8.1

I'm not going to pretend to know how to answer your question. Or pretend to be smart. But just within what you mention, it's time for you to upgrade buddy :) Especially with all the stuff you do. You will indeed notice a huge real world performance increase. Just take the plunge, the price is right. Some people have decided to upgrade from 690, or 680 SLI. If anyone would like to correct me if I'm wrong, please do! Just be nice about it. I don't claim to be mr. know it all. Hey, OP, have you tried googling and reading around what people are saying on the web? Well, good luck with whatever you decide :)

aputnik, after doing a quick search, it does say that the GTX 580 is a good card. Hmmm, toughy. Hopefully the smarter guys will give their input soon!

Smarter guy? You only had to multiply 580 numbers by 2 and get the picture on how the 580SLI do vs single 980... I guess that's what OP was trying to understand?

Well from my personal experience, I went from a 570 to a 970 and my performance doubled give or take. If you have SLI 580's i'm not sure you would see a huge performance bump but it would use a lot less electricity to do it.

I was referring only to myself regarding smarts. But yeah, I thought since its a few generations old, it would be logical to upgrade now. Out of curiosity I did a search for his question and saw that the GTX 580 was a good, powerful card. For its time. I guess if OP is not struggling with any of the new stuff out, or with streaming, by all means keep the 580 sli. But really, gtx 900 series are good prices, and nvidia has crammed a lot of cool stuff under the hood. Which would also later be available software wise for the older cards, 400 series and up. So, the choice is yours OP :) blacksapphire has given his input which is closer to what you wanted to hear I suppose

I went from 2x 580 SC to a single 780Ti and since a 980 beats a 780Ti or equal, I would say YES

Thanks guys. I think I'll get the 980. Just wondering, according to Wikipedia the Maxwell cards have an integrated ARM CPU so it doesn't need to use the main CPU as much. Will this benefit CPU intensive games like WoW?

A lot of that depends upon how old the game is and how it's coded. With newer PC games the GPU does most all of the work.

Go for GTX 980 i donot reccomment sli setup not very efficient
