Reason the Fluke's are so expensive is because there calibrated. As far as im concerned though you dont need a thermometer probe thats all that accurate. 1-3 degrees C doesnt really matter.

Here is one for $110 that I like. Has a stand so you can read it at a lower angle without holding it up. Dual probes FTW too. When I go DICE ill be measure temps with my dads AMP clamp\DMM that has a temp probe.

http://www.amazon.com/Ext...=1262612685&sr=8-5

Its hard to find them with the range you want (for LN2 in most cases).

Cheaper yet doesnt give a temp range

http://www.amazon.com/The...1262612685&sr=8-11

There are also multi meters that support a temp probe.

This is the one i have that i will use for my DICE tests: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/4FKP6?Pid=search

Takes 2 K-type probes (and comes with them), and measures down to -200*C accurately.

The one above looks nice, has two probes.

I use a Mannix dt307 it's simple and about $70 bucks has great temp range and very accurate.

i'll vouch you Extech, i love the pair of TM200's i have. battery life is really good with these units and they are more than enough for benching purposes. my only beef is i can't figure out a way to disable the automatic shut off after 5 minutes or whatever the safety sleep is...but it really doesn't affect me much when benching.

I loved the i5 6 series review you put up on XS, it was quite entertaining to read, though a little sad considering i just picked up a i5 650

I think I want to build a phase change.  I wonder how much parts I can salvage from a 5000 BTU AC?  I am thinking just saw off the evap and replace it with a block, but somehow I think there will be considerably more involved with it...

Re:Get It Colder......2 2010/01/04 13:52:11 (permalink)
You could salvage a lot out of a 5000 BTU for a Phase unit. You would just need a compressor, the evaporator to put on the CPU and some hosing and be able to recharge it. Maybe some other smaller things, but IM pretty sure the Compressor\Condenser are all you need for a basic unit.

There is a 90% chance im dead wrong though

thanks, just remember that half of disappointment comes from high expectations...now that expectations have been lowered, disappointment should go down too

seriously though, you have to keep the source of the content in perspective. i wrote it for the high-end benchmarking crowd with that and only that crowd in mind. the idea of good/bad is fluid and my perspective on hardware is much much different from most. if it can't achieve a top ten result in HWBot, it is bad in my books. obviously that isn't going to be the case for everyone.

hopefully you enjoy the setup, it may be a blast just to overclock even without amazing results. be sure to post up some results here or in the P55 section when you get up and running.

I was fumbling around with some killer gpu clocks, but not cold enough, so reverted back to the 'ol standbys.  Good thing, cause I need to go to bed....have to wait until the adrenaline wears off though!

and yes i will be sure to post up some benchmark results ;)

No, the August release one you mentioned.  But I don't think it was the driver, because it did the same as the older one (low physx scores) up until I installed the new PSU.

Yea, just the 1200w.  I'm afraid to attach the TT power express 650W...don't even know if it works.  It might have been fried with my enermax, which is now being RMA'd.

not yet...im a bit scared with this new bread of cpu...seems they want to be stuck in the low bclk range. i managed to get up to 226, but locked at 227... when i was able to boot 230+ with no problems at all.
