Two words: Grey Mole. If you can get in contact with him (haven't seen him on XS in a while). IMO he is one of the best, if not the best, phase and cascade builders out there. When i was seriously considering an SS or 2 stage, i talked with him a ton. Great guy, even better builder. He tunes his units better than Sdumper and RunMC, and he sells them for cheaper, with a 1 year warranty i must add. He works in HVACR for a living, so he builds his units for fun. He sells the so cheap because he likes building them for the fun of it, not for the money. His work speaks for himself too if you look through his stuff. (all threads started by him on XS; some phase stuff in there: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/search.php?searchid=22381987). Many of his builds seem to use 3/4hp compressors and are tuned for -4x* to -5x*C at 300-350w. He also has been able to tune for 500w at -25*C on one build of his i saw. Also for fun he was able to get an SS he made with a 1/2hp compressor to run -100*C (unloaded, but still, pretty sick). Halo, if you build, a 3/4hp compressor or more would be what you should get. Also, if you want -40*C at 300w, be prepared for tuning alot and mixing gases. There is a ton that goes into building and tuning (and really tuning, not just using huge parts to get the temps you want)... Or you could just go to ln2 and make things alot simpler.

Hehe LN2 is very unlikely for me.

grey mole fell off the playing field yet again. i was going to grab a cascade from him at one time. he definitely knows a thing or two, but is hardly around anymore. more than likely his health and family matters. he can build a phase change out of just about anything that can produce sub zero temps though..lol flip side though...allot of bad press going on with grey mole as well. it's why i didnt get the cascade from him. it's a bit more in depth, but im not going into it. i got this with R290/R507A -79C, but then unloaded is temp game as well.. side note: just pick this one up. you can get your feet wet...then take it and transform it into something else or the first stage of a cascade...that way...you will have an idea of what your up against. adding ports switching the evap recharging changing the condesor learning the wiring and so on. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=915476&high=phase i was thinking of using it as a gpu cooler.

i read up on some of the supposed issues people had with him. Didn't seem like that big of a deal to be honest; more like miscommunication but the other sides were being stupid about it. To me most of his problems seemed to stem from the other people involved, and not so much him. Also, he replied in those threads many times at XS to try and amend any problems that had gone on. Maybe you know more than me though about the issues?

Does it look kosher to you? I see wires dangling and a circuit board laying on the counter. Also, he thinks it is only tuned to 200W load. I am pretty sure my 965 will give it a hard time; but it certainly would be a start. I actually have a refrigeration certificate so I can buy refrigerant, but having a certificate doesn't mean I know what I am doing. The knowledge part takes time and practice.

The instructor talked for about 4 hours about various theory stuff and regulations, we took a test, and paid a fee, and that was it.

I got the UEI DT304 a few months ago. It has 4 readings, although you see two on the screen then push a toggle button to see the other two readings. My el cheapo dual probe Amprobe TMD-10 actual gives more accurate readings than the UEI though. You might check that out too. Next time around I'm spending the $ on a Fluke.

Q56_Monster Wassup fellas? Things boring now...no new HW to get excited about. Anyone running a GTX 590? I want the GTX 295 days back, lol! Heh IMO the 590 was a failure, if I was gonna get a dual GPU card I'd get a 6990. Right now I'm thinking I'll upgrade platforms when Ivy Bridge is out, and get the top end Single GPU at the time. I'm thinking about benching the 295 again. Still not sure what's up with this CPU though.. 4400Mhz @ 1.33V is perfectly stable, but it doesn't seem to like 4500Mhz or higher. When I set Vcore at 1.4, it only gets to around 4525Mhz, however it's definitely not a voltage wall. Confusing, yes? CPU VTT doesn't seem to affect it either. It's giving me a bunch of issues lol. The BSOD it gives me is one that indicates Vcore, but that's obviously not what the problem is. Oh yeah, and I have 2 GTX 260 Hydro Copper 192 (65nm, volt controllable) versions I can bench if I get bored.. And another 920 with a stock voltage of 1.22(I think). I'd just have to work up the courage to pull down my WC loop, which is a total pain.
