nothing is hard to do, just time consuming when you don't have a CAM program to translate those sexy LCD parts into actual G-code tool paths the the CNC uses. I have to do everything by hand :(
nateman_doo
I have a cad program at my jon (Pro-E Wildfire) which I am pretty good with at this point. Had to self teach. Designing stuff is cake, its the CAM program which is the money maker. The tool paths is where its at. How do you make the CNC cut out the part you just made in the CAD program. I have an ME buddy who swears by solidworks.
Nate, what file types does Pro-E save the 3-d models as? I might be able to convert the files into the code for the CNC. You have a PM in a sec.

Well... I'm saying goodbye to my 930 today. It has served me well, but it's time for it to move on.

I still have a 950 I haven't even tested yet. Bought it off Reggiesanchez during the summer. Still using my tried and true 920. I am just debating on which one to sell.

From OCN: nateman_doo I have mastercam X4 and have NO idea how to use it. Ya, i "downloaded" Mastercam X4 recently, and that is what i was thinking i could make the tool paths quickly in. I learned pretty fast though that it isn't as easy as it seems... I've been trying to figure it out for a few days now, and i can get some stuff to work, but a lot of it is still way over my head. Besides doing this for you though, i also have designed lots of stuff in Autodesk Inventor, and i wanted to figure out Mastercam to program my designs to be milled too. Ugh, there is so much stuff in Mastercam, it is ridiculous. Inventor though is so easy to learn for modeling.

I use PTC Pro-Engineer Wildfire 4.0 to do the solid modeling. Then I just plot all the points by hand. Takes a long time to design a block from scratch. Mastercam is CRAZY complicated. You have to take a course on it, even as a mechanical engineer to be familiar with it. I did draft up the "E" from the evga logo, found an acceptable radius for the curve which was what I was looking for. Was debating on milling it into the top surface of a block, but I not sure if EVGA would appreciate me using their logo on a block. In the meantime I have been keeping busy: Expect more pics in the very near future ;)
